Tips for Your Power BI Job Search
Showcase DAX and data model complexity
Recruiters screen for more than dashboard screenshots. Include examples of measures, calculated columns, and star schema designs you built. Naming the business problem each solved tells hiring managers your work had real impact, not just visual polish.
Filter openings by tech stack overlap
Many power bi listings pair the tool with Azure Synapse, SQL Server, or Fabric. Prioritize roles where your existing stack overlaps at least two of the listed tools. A close match on stack beats a stretch application to a role requiring six unfamiliar technologies.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists power bi openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Tailor your resume to report type
Financial reporting, operational dashboards, and executive scorecards each signal different priorities. Use the job description to identify which type a role emphasizes, then lead your bullet points with experience in that exact category rather than listing every project equally.
Prep a live walkthrough for interviews
Most power bi interviews include a technical demo or take-home. Practice explaining your layout decisions, color choices, and filter logic out loud. Interviewers want to hear your reasoning, not just see a polished file they could have downloaded from a template gallery.
Negotiate on scope before accepting
Before accepting an offer, ask which source systems you will connect to and whether you will own the semantic layer or inherit an existing model. The answer tells you whether the role is a growth opportunity or a maintenance position, which matters more than job title alone.
Power BI Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most power bis?
The companies hiring the most power bis right now include Infosys, Intone Networks, and KBR, with the largest share of openings in Texas, Virginia, and Georgia, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Demand is broadly distributed across financial services, healthcare systems, and large enterprise technology teams.
How many power bi jobs are remote?
About 76% of power bi openings are fully remote or hybrid as of August 2026, making it one of the more location-flexible analytics roles available. Data modeling, report development, and semantic layer work tend to be the most remote-friendly sub-areas, while roles that require hands-on stakeholder training or embedded team collaboration are more likely to require on-site presence.
How do you become a power bi developer?
Start by learning Power BI Desktop through Microsoft's free learning paths, focusing on data modeling, DAX formulas, and report design. Build a portfolio of three to five dashboards that solve real business questions, publish them to Power BI Service, and share the links publicly. Earning the PL-300 certification signals foundational credibility to employers. Then pair the tool with SQL skills, since most roles require writing your own queries against source databases before the data ever reaches Power BI.
Can you get a power bi job with little experience?
Yes, entry-level power bi roles exist, particularly at companies building out their analytics function for the first time. Focus your application on a portfolio over credentials: two or three published reports that demonstrate you can connect to a data source, model it correctly, and design a dashboard a non-technical audience can use. Roles titled business intelligence analyst or reporting analyst often have lower experience requirements than senior developer or architect positions and are a practical starting point.
What does the power bi interview process look like?
Most processes follow a recruiter screening call, then a technical round where you either complete a take-home exercise or walk through an existing project live. Expect questions about how you structure a data model, when you use calculated columns versus measures, and how you handle slow report performance. A final round typically involves a stakeholder panel focused on how you translate business requirements into a reporting solution and communicate findings to non-technical audiences.
Where can I find and apply to power bi jobs?
You can find and apply to power bi jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States. Find roles that match your experience and specialization, then apply directly to each listing from the page.
