Data Center Jobs in Columbus: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a data center job in Columbus?
Focus your search on Columbus's cloud and colocation employers anchored near Rickenbacker International Airport, the city's established data center corridor, as well as the enterprise IT operations of large healthcare systems and financial services firms downtown. Certifications like CompTIA A+, Network+, or a vendor credential in Cisco or AWS sharpen your candidacy. Hands-on experience with physical infrastructure, including cabling, hardware installation, or HVAC monitoring, gives you a clear edge in Columbus's operations-heavy market.
Which companies hire data centers in Columbus?
Columbus data center roles are posted by Cologix, Amazon, and Gilbane and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Hiring comes from a mix of national colocation providers with campuses near Rickenbacker, major financial and insurance firms headquartered downtown, and Ohio state government agencies managing large IT infrastructure footprints.
Are there remote data center jobs in Columbus?
Yes, but only for roles that don't require hands-on access to physical equipment. About 27% of data center openings tied to Columbus are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, skewing toward monitoring, NOC analyst, and systems administration positions rather than technician or facilities roles. Columbus's growing cloud-services sector generates the most remote-eligible postings within the data center field.
How can I get a data center job in Columbus with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Columbus is a data center technician or facilities assistant role with one of the colocation providers near Rickenbacker, which regularly hire candidates who hold a CompTIA A+ or Network+ certification even without prior data center experience. Columbus State Community College's IT programs also feed directly into local employer pipelines. Lateral moves from IT helpdesk or warehouse operations roles are common, and a willingness to work rotating shifts significantly widens your options.
Which industries hire the most data centers in Columbus?
Columbus data center roles concentrate in Construction & Real Estate, Retail, and Technology & Software, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Columbus's position as a major Midwest financial hub, combined with its large state government presence and expanding cloud infrastructure investment, keeps demand across those sectors consistently high.
