Cogent Data Solutions LLC is seeking an experienced Senior Data Integration Developer to support public health data modernization for a Texas state agency. This role involves developing automated data workflows, integrating electronic health information, and building dashboards that improve public health surveillance and reporting. You will work closely with program staff, epidemiologists, and technical teams to translate business needs into reliable technical solutions, reduce manual data review, and improve data quality.
Work Schedule and Location
Applicants must currently reside within a 50-mile radius of Austin, Texas.
The current schedule is four days remote and one day onsite per week, subject to agency needs.
Standard work hours are Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. Central Time.
Interviews will be conducted in person.

Key Responsibilities
Assess business and technical requirements for integrating electronic initial case reports into an existing public health registry.
Develop, test, maintain, and troubleshoot programs using SAS, Python, R, or comparable programming languages.
Automate data extraction, validation, ingestion, and population of registry fields.
Develop dashboards and automated workflows to support case triage, clinical review, and reporting.
Test and validate data integration processes for accuracy, completeness, and reliability.
Troubleshoot issues and improve existing programming solutions.
Document system requirements, code, technical specifications, workflows, and validation procedures.
Collaborate with program and technical teams to identify integration challenges and recommend improvements.
Required Qualifications
Applicants must demonstrate at least eight years of experience in each of the following areas:
Developing, testing, maintaining, and troubleshooting scripts using SAS, Python, R, or a comparable programming language. Experience in all three languages is not required.
System integration, dashboard development, and automation to improve interoperability workflows.
Working with structured or semi-structured health, public health, or other complex administrative data, including knowledge of databases and database querying.
Preparing system requirements documentation that translates business and program needs into technical solutions.
Testing and validating automated data integration solutions.
Documenting code, technical specifications, workflows, and procedures.
* Analytical problem-solving, collaboration, and communicating technical concepts to technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
Two or more years of relevant experience in the following areas:
Electronic case reporting (eCR/eICR), electronic health records (EHR), or health information exchange (HIE).
Healthcare interoperability standards such as HL7, XML, or FHIR, and clinical terminology standards such as SNOMED CT.
SQL and relational databases.
Public health surveillance systems or registries.
