Data Management Specialist – Aerospace
Astronics Advanced Electronic Systems (AES) | Cabin Electronics Power Team
Location: Kirkland, WA (on-site with 2–3 WFH days/week)
About the Role
Astronics AES is looking for a Data Management Specialist to own and improve how we manage technical data and controlled documents for our cabin power products. You’ll sit at the center of engineering, program management, quality, and supply chain—making sure the right data gets to the right people, in the right format, at the right time.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a structured, highly regulated environment (aerospace/defense) and enjoys building and refining data and document control processes.
What You’ll Do
Data Management & Governance
- Develop and refine data management strategies, policies, and procedures that meet program, customer, and regulatory requirements.
- Own the intake, processing, and fulfillment of data requests from internal teams and external customers.
- Manage the full lifecycle of data submittals (prep, review, approval, delivery) for customers and government agencies.
- Maintain and audit data repositories to ensure accuracy, integrity, and secure access.
- Proactively identify and resolve data discrepancies before they impact schedules or deliverables.
Document Control
- Administer document control systems and workflows supporting program execution and compliance.
- Standardize how documents (drawings, specs, plans, reports) are created, reviewed, approved, revised, stored, and retired.
- Confirm that all documents have correct revision levels, signatures, and supporting data before release.
- Support teams in using document standards, templates, and best practices.
- Respond to document retrieval requests from auditors, customers, and program teams.
Data Submissions & Compliance
- Serve as the primary point of contact for customer/supplier notifications (NOCs, SCNs, offerability documentation, PMA, etc.).
- Build and maintain dashboards and tracking logs to give program teams real-time visibility of submission status.
- Coordinate with engineering, quality, and program management to ensure submittals meet schedule, format, and regulatory requirements.
- Flag at-risk deliverables early and drive resolution with program leadership.
- Act as a key resource for trade compliance and export control (ITAR/EAR) within the department.
Continuous Improvement & Reporting
- Produce regular reports on submission status, document control metrics, and open actions.
- Identify opportunities to streamline and automate data/document control processes and help lead implementation.
What We’re Looking For
Background
- ~6+ years of experience in data management, document control, or records management, preferably in aerospace, defense, or government contracting.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Information Management, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
Core Skills
- Strong working knowledge of:
- Customer and supplier data management and submittal processes
- Contractual data deliverable requirements
- ITAR, EAR, and export control practices
- AS9100 and aerospace quality/documentation standards
- Proven ability to manage high volumes of data and documents across multiple programs and deadlines.
- Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and follow-through.
- Clear, professional communication skills; comfortable working directly with internal teams and external customers.
Employment Eligibility Requirements
- This role may involve access to items subject to U.S. export-controls laws or other applicable U.S.-government legal or contractual requirements. To assess whether any licenses, authorizations, or other exceptions are required, please indicate whether you are a U.S. Person. If you are not a U.S. Person, the company does not guarantee and is under no obligation to seek such authorization if it would be necessary. This information is collected solely for this compliance purpose.
- An offer of employment is contingent upon successfully passing a pre-employment background screen and drug test, including cannabis screening.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary range: $86,430 – $129,645 per year (midpoint: $108,037).
- Quarterly Profit Sharing Bonus eligible.
- Factors such as experience in comparable roles, skill set, training, education, certifications, other qualifications, market conditions, and business needs influence the actual salary offered. It is not typical to be hired at or near the top of the range.
Comprehensive Benefits Package
- Health & Well-Being: Medical, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance, plus optional critical illness, accident prevention, and hospital indemnity coverage.
- Financial Security: 401(k) plan and Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
- Work–Life Balance: Flexible hybrid work arrangements for eligible positions, Employee Assistance Program, and a supportive culture encouraging balance.
- Generous PTO: Starting at 120 hours annually, plus 12 paid holidays per year.
Why Join Astronics AES?
- Work on products used by major aerospace customers worldwide.
- Be the central owner of data and document control for critical programs—your work directly impacts delivery and compliance.
- Hybrid flexibility (on-site with 2–3 WFH days/week, depending on project needs).
- Opportunity to improve and shape data/document processes, not just maintain them.
