Entry Level Data Platform Engineer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an entry level data platform engineer job?
Employers hiring at this level look for hands-on evidence over credentials alone. Build a portfolio that shows you can design or maintain a data pipeline, work with cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, or Azure, and write clean SQL or Python. Internship experience, open-source contributions, or a capstone project that solves a real data problem all give you a concrete edge over candidates who only list coursework.
Which companies hire entry level data platform engineers?
Companies hiring entry level data platform engineers right now include DoorDash, Lyft, and Radar, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. The mix typically includes technology firms, financial services companies, and growth-stage startups that are actively building or scaling their data infrastructure and need junior engineers to support that work.
Are there remote entry level data platform engineer jobs?
Yes, though most entry level roles still favor on-site or hybrid arrangements for hands-on mentorship. About 38% of entry level data platform engineer openings are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, so candidates who prefer flexibility will find real options alongside the more traditional in-office positions.
Are these new grad data platform engineer jobs?
Yes. The listings here include new grad, recent graduate, and junior data platform engineer roles posted by employers who explicitly welcome candidates with little or no professional experience. A new grad-friendly posting typically accepts zero to two years of experience and treats internship work, academic projects, or a strong portfolio as a genuine substitute for a longer employment history.
Which industries hire the most entry level data platform engineers?
Entry Level data platform engineer roles concentrate in Technology & Software, Retail, and Agriculture & Farming, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. These sectors tend to drive early-career hiring because they are actively modernizing data infrastructure and need junior engineers who can support pipeline development, cloud migrations, and data reliability work from day one.
