Data Science Director Jobs in Chicago: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a data science director job in Chicago?
Target Chicago's strongest hiring pockets: fintech and trading firms in the Loop, health tech companies in the Illinois Medical District corridor, and enterprise software employers in Fulton Market. Directors who can demonstrate P&L ownership, cross-functional team leadership, and experience translating model output into business decisions stand out. Networking through Chicago-specific data and analytics communities also opens doors that applications alone rarely do.
Which companies hire data science directors in Chicago?
Companies currently hiring data science directors in Chicago include ZS, University of Chicago, and Meta, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Chicago's hiring mix is unusually broad, ranging from global financial institutions and insurance carriers headquartered downtown to fast-scaling health tech and logistics startups in the city's west-side innovation corridor.
Are there remote data science director jobs in Chicago?
Yes, though it varies by sector. Director-level data science roles are among the more remote-compatible leadership positions because the work centers on strategy, modeling oversight, and stakeholder communication rather than physical presence. About 73% of data science director openings tied to Chicago are remote or hybrid as of June 2026. Fully remote postings tend to come from the city's enterprise software and fintech employers rather than its healthcare or trading firms.
How can I get a data science director job in Chicago with little or no experience?
The most realistic path is moving into a senior data scientist or lead analytics role first, ideally at one of Chicago's mid-size fintech, insurtech, or health tech companies that promote internally. These employers often give senior ICs scope to lead projects and small teams before a formal director title. Building visibility through local meetups and contributing to Chicago's active open-data and civic tech communities can also accelerate the transition to a director-track role.
Which industries hire the most data science directors in Chicago?
Chicago data science director roles concentrate in Consulting & Professional Services, Banking & Financial Services, and Education, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Chicago's deep roots in financial services, its large hospital and health system footprint, and its growing status as a Midwest logistics and supply chain hub all drive sustained demand for director-level data science leadership.
