Salesforce Developer Jobs in Illinois: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a salesforce developer in Illinois?
Start by completing Salesforce's free Trailhead learning paths and earning the Platform Developer I certification, which is the baseline credential Illinois employers expect. Illinois has no state-issued license for this role. Most developers break in through a computer science or information systems degree, a coding bootcamp, or by transitioning from a Salesforce administrator role. Building a portfolio of Salesforce org projects in a developer edition environment significantly strengthens applications to Illinois employers.
How much do salesforce developers make in Illinois?
Salesforce developers in Illinois earn a median of about $132,110 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $80,980 for the lowest 10% to over $194,740 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire salesforce developers in Illinois?
Employers hiring salesforce developers in Illinois right now include TriWest Healthcare Alliance, SMBHD, and LTM Limited, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Illinois's density of Fortune 500 headquarters and large consulting firms means steady demand across both in-house corporate teams and client-facing delivery practices.
Which Illinois cities have the most salesforce developer jobs?
Chicago, Des Plaines, and Oak Brook have the most salesforce developer openings in Illinois. Chicago dominates because of its concentration of financial services firms, healthcare systems, and global consulting offices, while Naperville and Schaumburg generate openings from the corporate campuses and technology consulting centers clustered in the western and northwestern suburbs.
Are there remote salesforce developer jobs in Illinois?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 33% of salesforce developer openings tied to Illinois are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how thoroughly this work is done through a browser rather than on-site hardware. Configuration, development, and integration work travel well remotely, while discovery workshops and stakeholder training sessions more commonly require in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a salesforce developer in Illinois with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is transitioning from a Salesforce administrator or business analyst role, which many large Illinois employers such as insurance companies, health systems, and consulting firms hire for without requiring development experience. Earning Platform Developer I certification and completing a self-built org project that solves a real business problem gives a concrete portfolio to show. Entry-level associate developer or junior consultant roles at Chicago-area Salesforce implementation partners are also a direct route for candidates with certification but no professional history.
Where can I find and apply to salesforce developer jobs in Illinois?
You can find and apply to salesforce developer jobs in Illinois on Migrate Mate, which lists current Illinois openings from employers actively hiring. Find roles that fit your experience and apply directly from the listing.
