Salesforce Developer Jobs in Virginia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a salesforce developer in Virginia?
Virginia does not require a state-issued license to work as a salesforce developer, so the path runs through education and Salesforce credentials. Most employers expect a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field alongside hands-on development experience. Earning Salesforce Platform Developer I certification through Trailhead is the standard entry credential, and candidates targeting government contracting roles in Northern Virginia should begin the federal security clearance process as early as possible.
How much do salesforce developers make in Virginia?
Salesforce developers in Virginia earn a median of about $136,460 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $83,350 for the lowest 10% to over $211,930 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire salesforce developers in Virginia?
Employers hiring salesforce developers in Virginia right now include ICF, Steampunk, and Agility Technologies, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Northern Virginia's dense concentration of defense contractors and federal agencies makes it one of the most active states nationally for Salesforce roles tied to government IT modernization.
Which Virginia cities have the most salesforce developer jobs?
McLean, Reston, and Virginia are the Virginia cities with the most salesforce developer openings. Northern Virginia dominates because of its unmatched density of federal agencies, defense contractors, and technology consultancies, while Richmond draws hiring from financial services firms and large health systems, and Hampton Roads reflects steady demand from Navy and Department of Defense IT programs.
Are there remote salesforce developer jobs in Virginia?
Yes, and more than most fields, because salesforce development is entirely desk-based and platform work transfers cleanly to remote environments. About 67% of salesforce developer openings tied to Virginia are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, though roles requiring a federal security clearance or access to classified systems are nearly always on-site or hybrid. Configuration, development, and integration work are the sub-areas most frequently offered with full remote flexibility.
How can I get hired as a salesforce developer in Virginia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is earning Salesforce Administrator and Platform Developer I certifications through Trailhead before applying, since Virginia employers treat these as proof of baseline competence in the absence of a long work history. Large Northern Virginia contractors like Booz Allen Hamilton and Leidos hire junior developers into associate or analyst-level technology roles, and candidates who transition from Salesforce administrator or business analyst positions already inside those firms gain a practical advantage. Building a portfolio of Trailhead projects and contributing to a nonprofit Salesforce environment through pro bono programs adds concrete evidence of skill.
Where can I find and apply to salesforce developer jobs in Virginia?
You can find and apply to salesforce developer jobs in Virginia on Migrate Mate, which lists current Virginia openings updated in real time. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience level, specialization, and preferred location or remote arrangement, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
