Salesforce Developer Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a salesforce developer in California?
There is no California state license required to work as a salesforce developer, so the path runs through Salesforce's own credential program. Most California employers expect at least a Platform Developer I certification, which you earn by passing Salesforce's proctored exam after completing Trailhead training modules. A degree in computer science or information systems strengthens your application, and hands-on experience with Apex and Lightning Web Components is consistently required before most California employers will consider a candidate.
How much do salesforce developers make in California?
Salesforce developers in California earn a median of about $174,410 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $105,060 for the lowest 10% to over $272,670 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire salesforce developers in California?
Employers hiring salesforce developers in California right now include SIDRAM TECHNOLOGIES, Riveron, and Barracuda Networks, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's concentration of enterprise technology headquarters, large healthcare systems, and financial institutions means demand is consistent across multiple industries rather than tied to a single sector.
Which California cities have the most salesforce developer jobs?
San Francisco, Oakland, and San Jose have the most salesforce developer openings in California. San Francisco leads because Salesforce is headquartered there and a dense cluster of enterprise software and fintech companies operates in the Bay Area, while Los Angeles reflects demand from media, entertainment, and healthcare organizations, and San Diego draws from its biotech and defense contractor base.
Are there remote salesforce developer jobs in California?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 26% of salesforce developer openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, which reflects the role's nature as a desk-based, cloud-platform job with no physical site requirement. Configuration, development, and integration work are the functions most frequently offered fully remote, while roles involving close collaboration with internal stakeholders tend to require at least part-time on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a salesforce developer in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is earning a Salesforce Platform Developer I certification through Trailhead and building two or three complete projects to demonstrate your skills. California's large healthcare systems and public-sector agencies often post junior administrator or junior developer roles that serve as entry points. Candidates who come from adjacent roles such as Salesforce administrator, business analyst, or IT support have a clear transition path, and completing Salesforce's free Trailhead Go program or a workforce development bootcamp recognized by California community colleges can substitute for a four-year degree at many mid-size employers.
Where can I find and apply to salesforce developer jobs in California?
You can find and apply to salesforce developer jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings. Search the listings for roles that match your experience level and specialization, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
