Senior Quality Manager Jobs in Virginia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a senior quality manager in Virginia?
Most senior quality managers in Virginia reach the role by combining a bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field with progressive quality experience and professional certification. Virginia does not require a state-issued license for this role, but the American Society for Quality's Certified Manager of Quality and Organizational Excellence credential is widely expected by Virginia defense contractors and manufacturers. Candidates typically move up through quality engineer or quality assurance lead positions before assuming senior management responsibilities.
How much do senior quality managers make in Virginia?
Senior quality managers in Virginia earn a median of about $128,230 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $83,390 for the lowest 10% to over $206,820 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire senior quality managers in Virginia?
Employers hiring senior quality managers in Virginia right now include Amazon, General Dynamics Mission Systems, and Virginia Commonwealth University, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Virginia's concentration of defense contractors, federal system integrators, and FDA-regulated manufacturers means demand is especially sustained in Northern Virginia and the Hampton Roads corridor.
Which Virginia cities have the most senior quality manager jobs?
The cities with the most senior quality manager openings in Virginia are Herndon, Reston, and Fort Belvoir. Northern Virginia drives the largest share of postings because of its dense cluster of defense contractors and federal agencies, while Richmond's manufacturing base and Hampton Roads' shipbuilding and naval facilities sustain consistent demand across those metros.
Are there remote senior quality manager jobs in Virginia?
Yes, but they're rare. Senior quality management is largely a hands-on discipline requiring on-site audits, production floor oversight, and direct team leadership, so fully remote positions are uncommon. About 60% of senior quality manager openings tied to Virginia are remote or hybrid as of August 2026. The tasks most likely to be performed remotely include documentation review, supplier quality audits conducted off-site, and management system reporting.
How can I get hired as a senior quality manager in Virginia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is securing a quality inspector, quality technician, or quality engineer role at one of Virginia's major defense or manufacturing employers and building toward management from within. Large Virginia employers such as Northrop Grumman and Huntington Ingalls Industries run structured rotational and development programs that give early-career quality professionals exposure to audit, compliance, and systems work. Earning an ASQ Certified Quality Technician or Certified Quality Engineer credential while working in an adjacent role strengthens a promotion case considerably.
Where can I find and apply to senior quality manager jobs in Virginia?
You can find and apply to senior quality manager jobs in Virginia on Migrate Mate, which lists current Virginia openings across defense, manufacturing, healthcare, and federal contracting sectors. Find roles that match your experience and apply directly to the employers posting them.
