Data Science Intern Jobs in Mississippi: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a data science intern in Mississippi?
The most direct path is enrolling in a data science, statistics, or computer science program at a Mississippi university, such as Mississippi State University, the University of Mississippi, or Jackson State University, which each offer relevant degree tracks. Mississippi has no state-issued license for data science roles, so the credential that matters most is academic standing combined with a portfolio of real analytical projects. Completing coursework in machine learning, SQL, and applied statistics puts candidates in a strong position for Mississippi intern openings.
Which companies hire data science interns in Mississippi?
Mississippi data science intern roles are posted by RePublic Schools, Genentech, and Briotix Health and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. State government agencies, regional healthcare networks, and defense contractors with Mississippi footprints are among the most consistent sources of intern-level postings in the state.
Which Mississippi cities have the most data science intern jobs?
Jackson, Mississippi, and Ridgeland account for the largest share of data science intern openings in Mississippi. Jackson's concentration of state agencies, healthcare systems, and financial institutions drives the bulk of demand, while Starkville and Oxford benefit from Mississippi State University and the University of Mississippi anchoring research and tech-adjacent hiring in those markets.
Are there remote data science intern jobs in Mississippi?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 14% of data science intern openings tied to Mississippi are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how well analytical and modeling work translates to distributed environments. The tasks most likely to stay fully remote are data cleaning, exploratory analysis, and dashboard development, while roles involving proprietary government or healthcare data often require at least some on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a data science intern in Mississippi with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly through Mississippi university career centers, which maintain relationships with state employers and list intern openings before they reach public postings. Mississippi State University's Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems and the University of Mississippi Medical Center both run structured student programs that welcome applicants without prior professional experience. Building a public GitHub portfolio with Mississippi-relevant datasets, such as agricultural yield data from the Mississippi Department of Agriculture or public health figures from the Mississippi State Department of Health, gives hiring managers something concrete to evaluate beyond coursework.
Where can I find and apply to data science intern jobs in Mississippi?
You can find and apply to data science intern jobs in Mississippi on Migrate Mate, which lists current Mississippi openings updated regularly. Search the available roles, find the ones that match your skills and availability, and apply directly to each listing that fits.
