Data Science Intern Jobs in Montana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a data science intern in Montana?
Data science intern positions in Montana do not require a state-issued license. Most employers expect current enrollment in a degree program in data science, statistics, computer science, or a related field at a Montana institution such as Montana State University or the University of Montana. Building a portfolio of projects in Python or R, completing relevant coursework in machine learning or databases, and applying through university career centers are the most direct paths to landing a role.
Which companies hire data science interns in Montana?
Montana data science intern roles are posted by Swiggy, Mesa Labs, and Jazz Pharmaceuticals and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Montana's healthcare systems, agricultural technology companies, and state government agencies are among the most consistent sources of intern openings across the state.
Which Montana cities have the most data science intern jobs?
Bozeman, Billings, and Capitol have the most data science intern openings in Montana. Billings leads because of its concentration of healthcare systems and energy companies, while Bozeman and Missoula are driven by Montana State University, the University of Montana, and a growing cluster of technology and research employers that recruit directly from campus.
Are there remote data science intern jobs in Montana?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 100% of data science intern openings tied to Montana are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how much of the work involves coding, modeling, and analysis that can be done independently. The most remote-friendly portions of the role tend to be data cleaning, model development, and reporting tasks rather than stakeholder meetings or on-site data collection.
How can I get hired as a data science intern in Montana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to intern programs run directly by Montana's large institutions, including research assistant positions at Montana State University or the University of Montana, which frequently accept students with coursework but limited professional experience. Building a GitHub portfolio with two or three completed projects in Python or R gives you a concrete advantage. Lateral entry from adjacent roles such as research assistant, IT support analyst, or database administrator is common at healthcare systems like Billings Clinic and state agency offices.
