Development Director Jobs in Atlanta: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a development director job in Atlanta?
Atlanta's strongest hiring comes from its large nonprofit sector, historically Black colleges and universities, major health systems, and arts and cultural institutions. Candidates who stand out have a documented history of leading major gift campaigns or capital campaigns, strong relationships in Atlanta's philanthropic community, and experience closing gifts from local foundations and corporate giving programs. Midtown and Buckhead are where most of these employers concentrate their fundraising operations.
Which companies hire development directors in Atlanta?
Companies currently hiring development directors in Atlanta include AutoZone, The Home Depot, and Deloitte, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Atlanta's market draws from a wide range of employer types, including community foundations, hospital foundations, arts organizations, and regional nonprofits headquartered in the city.
Are there remote development director jobs in Atlanta?
Yes, though remote availability is limited for a role that relies heavily on in-person donor relationships and community presence. About 35% of development director openings tied to Atlanta are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, with most of those reflecting hybrid schedules rather than fully remote positions. Grant writing and strategy work tends to be the most location-flexible portion of the role in Atlanta.
How can I get a development director job in Atlanta with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a development associate or major gifts officer role at one of Atlanta's mid-size nonprofits, community foundations, or university advancement offices, where promotion timelines are shorter and mentorship is more accessible. Organizations in the Atlanta Community Food Bank network, arts venues along Peachtree Street, and advocacy groups in the Sweet Auburn corridor regularly hire junior development staff. Building relationships through the Association of Fundraising Professionals Georgia Chapter also opens doors quickly.
Which industries hire the most development directors in Atlanta?
Atlanta development director roles concentrate in Technology & Software, Consulting & Professional Services, and Manufacturing, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Atlanta's dense nonprofit infrastructure, its role as a regional headquarters for major health systems, and its nationally recognized arts and civil rights institutions collectively drive consistent demand for experienced fundraising leadership.
