Los Angeles Network for Enhanced Services (LANES) – Los Angeles, CA (Hybrid Remote)
Salary Range: $135,000 – $165,000 a year
Position Status: Full-Time, Exempt
Reports to: Chief Technology and Innovation Officer
Background
At LANES, we have a diverse team of healthcare IT experts devoted to solving real-world healthcare problems. We’re looking for a driven, smart, creative, and collaborative candidate who shares our passion for optimizing the intersection of consumer health, engagement, technology, and innovation.
LANES is a community-based Qualified Health Information Organization (QHIO) whose mission is to improve healthcare delivery by building a platform that enables cost-effective and secure electronic exchange of patient medical records among public and private healthcare providers and health plans in Los Angeles County. LANES uses Mirth technology, AWS cloud infrastructure, Google BigQuery, and FHIR standards to safely and securely link healthcare organizations.
Position Summary
The DevOps Engineer will provide critical operational, infrastructure, and security support to LANES. You will be responsible for managing and optimizing our environments within Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Google Cloud Platform (GCP), while serving as the primary lead for production support, system uptime, and security compliance.
In addition to core infrastructure management (Mirth Connect, Node.js, Angular, Nginx, and Postgres), this role maintains a heavy focus on security operations, including advanced Datadog monitoring, secure VPN tunnel management, and leading the technical readiness for our annual HITRUST certification audits.
This is a hybrid, virtual home-based position. The candidate will be required to attend in-person meetings in the Los Angeles area on an as-needed basis.
Essential Functions
1. Cloud Operations & Observability
- Manage, scale, and troubleshoot our multi-cloud environment (primarily AWS with some GCP workloads) to ensure maximum uptime and system resilience.
- Develop, configure, secure and deploy new cloud infrastructure in AWS using technologies like Node.js, EC2, Lambda, S3, Postgres, ALB, Auto Scale Groups and Redis.
- Deploy, configure, and operate Datadog across the entire stack to establish deep observability, granular application performance monitoring (APM), log management, and proactive alerting frameworks.
- Perform system updates, patch management, and infrastructure maintenance during designated monthly windows with zero-to-minimal downtime.
2. Security, Networking & Compliance
- Act as the technical lead for HITRUST certification and compliance auditing, ensuring all infrastructure controls, logging, and access management meet stringent healthcare security standards.
- Architect, configure, and maintain secure site-to-site VPN channels (IPsec/AWS Client VPN) to connect securely with external hospital systems, clinics, and participants.
- Implement and enforce data security best practices (encryption-at-rest and in-transit) safeguarding PHI, HIV, and SUD data categories.
- Oversee Identity and Access Management (IAM), network firewalls, and vulnerability remediation.
3. Data & Interface Support
- Troubleshoot and optimize HL7, CCD, and FHIR interfaces managed via Mirth Connect.
- Monitor and diagnose Postgres database performance issues, executing optimization strategies and maintaining robust backup and Disaster Recovery (DR) testing plans.
- Provide Tier 2/3 engineering support to debug issues across the middleware layer (Node.js running on load-balanced EC2 Auto Scaling Groups) and the web layer (Angular/Nginx).
4. Collaboration & Process Improvement
- Define, maintain, and automate CI/CD pipelines to achieve seamless, automated code deployment.
- Author and update standard operating procedures (SOPs), runbooks, and architectural diagrams.
- Collaborate closely with external technical vendors, LANES clients, and internal engineering teams to resolve complex integration tickets.
Job Qualifications
Required Experience & Skills
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cyber Security, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
- Cloud Infrastructure: 5+ years of production experience managing AWS environments (EC2, VPC, Auto Scaling, Route 53, RDS, IAM). Experience with GCP is highly desirable.
- Security & Compliance: Direct experience preparing for or participating in HITRUST, SOC 2, or HIPAA compliance audits. Strong knowledge of healthcare privacy rules.
- Observability: Hands-on experience implementing and operating Datadog (or similar enterprise tooling like New Relic/Splunk) for infrastructure and application monitoring.
- Networking: Proven experience setting up, maintaining, and troubleshooting VPN tunnels, firewalls, and secure network routing.
- Healthcare Data Integration: 3+ years of experience working with healthcare data standards (HL7 v2/v3, CCD/C-CDA, FHIR) and interface engines, preferably Mirth Connect.
- Database & Stack Proficiency: Linux shell scripting proficiency, experience managing Postgres databases, and familiarity supporting Node.js/Angular applications.
- CI/CD: Experience establishing and improving automated deployment pipelines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a technical or healthcare informatics field.
- Relevant certifications: AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, AWS Certified Security – Specialty, or CCSFP (Certified HITRUST Quality Professional).
- Strong technical writing skills with the ability to translate complex audit findings or system issues into clear management reports.
- High level of interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with remote teams and healthcare clients.

DevOps Engineer Jobs in Los Angeles: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a devops engineer job in Los Angeles?
Focus your search on Los Angeles's strongest hiring sectors: entertainment technology in Playa Vista, aerospace and defense in El Segundo and the South Bay, and healthcare IT across the Westside. Employers in these sectors favor candidates with Kubernetes, Terraform, and CI/CD pipeline experience. Attending local tech meetups in Culver City and Santa Monica and building a portfolio of cloud infrastructure work gives you a concrete edge over other applicants.
Which companies hire devops engineers in Los Angeles?
Companies currently hiring devops engineers in Los Angeles include Exponent, Google, and Renesas, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Los Angeles draws a mix of major studios, defense contractors, healthtech firms, and fast-growing SaaS startups, all of which maintain dedicated devops and platform engineering teams.
Are there remote devops engineer jobs in Los Angeles?
Yes, devops engineer roles are among the more remote-friendly technical positions because most of the work involves cloud platforms and automation tooling rather than on-site hardware. About 56% of devops engineer openings tied to Los Angeles are remote or hybrid as of June 2026. Infrastructure-as-code and cloud operations work is most likely to be fully remote, while roles requiring data center access or on-premises deployments typically stay on-site.
How can I get a devops engineer job in Los Angeles with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Los Angeles is targeting junior site reliability engineer or cloud support roles at mid-size SaaS companies in Playa Vista or Culver City, which hire more entry-level candidates than large enterprises or defense contractors. Building hands-on experience with AWS or GCP through personal projects, earning a recognized cloud certification, and contributing to open-source infrastructure tooling makes your application competitive. Local coding bootcamps with employer partnerships in downtown LA also place candidates into DevOps-adjacent roles that can transition quickly.
Which industries hire the most devops engineers in Los Angeles?
The sectors hiring the most devops engineers in Los Angeles are Technology & Software, Consulting & Professional Services, and Education, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026.
