JOB SUMMARY
Reporting to the Chief Commercial Officer, U.S. Innovative Medicines, the Senior Director of Commercial Analytics and Insights will play a pivotal and highly visible role in shaping commercial strategy. This will be achieved through deep market understanding, transforming data and predictive analytics into actionable insights, and generating meaningful market intelligence to inform decisions that drive performance across the U.S. innovative medicines portfolio. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in pharmaceutical analytics and forecasting methodologies, and a passion for leveraging digital tools to enhance commercial performance.
Responsibilities
Leadership and Collaboration
- Lead the company-wide initiative to identify, consolidate, and harmonize commercial, operational, and market-related data from disparate sources to provide meaningful insights to different levels of the organization.
- Act as a senior advisor and thought partner to SUN’s NAM leadership across Commercial, Digital, Medical, Access and New Product Planning, shaping strategic decisions.
- Deliver clear, concise, and compelling data narratives to leadership and stakeholders, highlighting actionable implications and key assumptions to inform strategic decisions and data-driven insights.
- Establish data governance protocols to ensure data accuracy, timeliness, and relevance.
- Oversee the creation and maintenance of a centralized, accessible data repository.
- Collaborate with IT, compliance, and external vendors to ensure data integrity, privacy, and regulatory adherence.
- Immersion in strategic and tactical plans of the U.S. innovation medicines businesses to proactively support performance measurement and reporting needs.
- Serve as a thought leader and change agent for digital transformation within the organization.
- Build and mentor a high-performing team of analysts and forecasters.
- Foster a culture of curiosity, collaboration, continuous improvement and champion adoption of analytics and AI/ML powered products and embedment into workflows and decision-making processes.
Data Analytics and Insights
- Lead the development and execution of advanced analytics strategies to support commercial and market access teams.
- Translate complex data sets into clear, actionable business insights for sales, marketing, and market access teams to support the business planning process and to inform strategy and tactics.
- Utilize various claim data sources to identify patients at different stages of their journey.
- Oversee the design and implementation of dashboards, KPIs, and reporting tools to monitor brand performance and commercial effectiveness for cross-functional stakeholders.
- Leverage advanced analytics, to optimize customer targeting, segmentation, and marketing spend, evaluate and improve promotional strategies, and generate insights on patient journey and buying process.
- Evaluate emerging data sources and analytical methodologies to continually elevate our Commercial Analytics function.
Market Research and Competitive Intelligence
- Lead the design, execution, and analysis of primary and secondary market research to support brand strategy, customer segmentation, and product positioning.
- Translate market research findings into strategic recommendations for commercial, medical, and executive leadership teams.
- Vet market research vendors and manage relationships with external research vendors to ensure high-quality, compliant research practices.
- Monitor competitive intelligence and market trends to identify opportunities and threats across therapeutic areas.
Forecasting and Modeling
- Own long-range forecasting models for pipeline and in-line products across the U.S. innovative medicines portfolio.
- Develop scenario planning and sensitivity analysis to support investment decisions and risk management.
- Work closely with Commercial leaders, Market Access, Medical Affairs, BD, R&D, and Finance to align forecasts and insights with broader business objectives.
- Serve as key contributor to business development evaluations and strategic partnerships.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Marketing, Data Science, or related field; Master’s or MBA preferred.
- Minimum 10+ years in data analytics, forecasting or commercial strategy within the pharmaceutical or life sciences industry.
- Demonstrated track record of leading cross-functional initiatives and delivering measurable business impact.
- Proven leadership experience managing teams and influencing senior stakeholders.
- Fluency with various industry data sources such as IQVIA Rx data (xPonent, xPonent Plantrak, DDD, and HCOS) or Symphony Rx data (Prescriber, Prescriber/Payor, PHAST), Patient Claims data, Patient Longitudinal data or other types of patient and physician level data.
- Experience utilizing complex data to drive business decisions, hands on experience in data science methodologies (predictive analytics, machine learning, patient level data triggers) using SQL, R, Python, Databricks, and deep knowledge of Qlik, PowerBI, Tableau for visualization.
- Advanced proficiency in sales force productivity tools and CRM platforms.
- Fluency with RWD sources such as TriNetX, Flatiron, Optum, Komodo, etc.
- Expertise with forecasting tools such as Forecast Pro, Crystal Ball and/or Excel.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office tools.
- Strong understanding of pharmaceutical dynamics, the regulatory environment and product life cycle.
- Familiarity with patient journey mapping and HCP engagement strategies.
- Excellent communication, presentation, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to organize, prioritize, meet deadlines, make decisions, and change course of action quickly.
- Highly collaborative and energized to work across functional boundaries both internally and externally.
- A bias toward action and outcomes and ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast paced, high-growth environment.
COMPENSATION
- The presently-anticipated base compensation pay range for this position is $232,500 to $284,000. Actual base compensation may vary based on a number of factors, including but not limited to geographical location and experience. In addition, this position is part of the Annual Performance Bonus Plan. Employees are eligible to participate in Company employee benefit programs which include medical, dental and vision coverage; life insurance; disability insurance; 401(k) savings plan; flexible spending accounts; and the employee assistance program. Employees also receive various paid time off benefits, including vacation time and sick time. The compensation and benefits described above are subject to the terms and conditions of any governing plans, policies, practices, agreements, or other materials or documents as in effect from time to time, including but not limited to terms and conditions regarding eligibility. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company, or individual department/team performance, and market factors.
