DESCRIPTION
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is looking for a hands-on technical leader to build and lead a team of specialist Solutions Architects and Customer Development Engineers focused on Data & AI Foundations. You will help customers modernize their data architectures to enable AI and agentic system readiness, working across the full stack from accelerator optimization, through lakehouse and streaming architectures, to training and inference infrastructure. You will also guide customers through emerging architectural patterns including semantic layers, context graphs, and governed metrics stores that give AI systems the business understanding to operate reliably.
This is a leadership role where you architect alongside your team, coach them through complex customer engagements, and bring forward-looking technical vision to our most strategic accounts. You will shape solutions in spaces where the playbook is still being written and bring customer signals back to AWS service teams to influence roadmaps.
Key job responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of specialist Solutions Architects and Customer Development Engineers across data, AI infrastructure, and open source domains
- Engage directly with customers as a technical advisor on data architecture modernization, AI readiness, and emerging patterns such as semantic layers, context graphs, and metrics stores
- Architect solutions alongside your team for complex, multi-service customer environments spanning data governance, compute optimization, and ML infrastructure
- Hire, onboard, and train new team members; build a diverse and inclusive team culture
- Coach team members on architectural thinking, customer engagement, and executive communication
- Develop prescriptive architectures, reference implementations, and enablement content that helps the broader field SA community have these conversations with their own customers
- Lead builders who work directly in customer environments, delivering hands-on implementation alongside advisory engagements
- Represent the team externally through conference presentations, published architectures, and technical keynotes that establish credibility in the data and AI space
- Partner with AWS service teams to shape product roadmaps based on customer signals and emerging trends
- Collaborate with peer SA managers, Professional Services, and specialist organizations to deliver unified solutions
- Drive open source engagement and contribution where it accelerates customer outcomes
A day in the life
You might start the morning reviewing a customer architecture where a data engineering team is building a semantic layer to make their lakehouse AI-ready. After lunch, you coach a team member preparing to present inference optimization options to a customer VP of Engineering. Later, you finalize a conference talk on emerging context graph patterns you are seeing across your customer base. You close the day connecting with your peer leading Agentic AI Systems to align on a shared customer pursuing end-to-end AI readiness.
