The Opportunity
We're looking for a highly energetic, assertive, and personable Key Account Manager to join the Simplehuman Sales team. This role leads our Costco Global relationship, owning the day-to-day partnership across US and international Costco markets and serving as the primary face of the brand.
This is a role for someone who thrives on relationships, knows how to earn trust, and can speak about a product with the kind of conviction that moves buyers. You'll serve as the day-to-day point of contact, representing our brand at the highest level while driving revenue and securing meaningful placement. Alongside the Costco relationship, you'll also manage a growing portfolio of distributor, builder, and trade accounts tied to a new product initiative, leading the follow-up and execution that keeps these partners moving as the program comes to market. This is a fully on-site position based in our Torrance, CA office.
What You’ll Own
- Own and grow the Costco Global relationship, driving sales, volume, and profitability across US and international Costco markets
- Serve as the primary relationship owner for Costco, from buyer to category manager to warehouse-level contacts
- Lead Costco account reviews, line presentations, item setup, and sell-in meetings with confidence and clarity
- Negotiate Costco terms, pricing, and promotional programs that work for both sides
- Manage a portfolio of distributor, builder, and trade accounts supporting a new product initiative, leading day-to-day follow-up, order execution, and relationship management
- Communicate our brand story compellingly and consistently across every touchpoint
- Collaborate with internal teams (marketing, ops, product, supply chain) to deliver on account commitments
- Build and maintain sales tracking, forecasts, and performance reporting in Excel; proactively identify growth opportunities
- Represent the company at trade shows, market events, and retailer meetings
What We’re Looking For
- 5-10 years of account management or sales experience, with Costco and/or consumer goods experience strongly preferred
- Proven track record of building and sustaining long-term client relationships, ideally with Costco or another major club/mass retail account
- Experience managing or supporting distributor, builder, or trade accounts, with a strong focus on follow-up and execution
- Skilled negotiator comfortable leading sell-in and promotional negotiations while advocating for your accounts and protecting company interests
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to speak to buyers, executives, and store-level teams with equal ease
- Strong data, math, and Excel skills, with the ability to build forecasts, pricing models, and performance reports
- Highly detail-oriented, with the discipline to manage complex account documentation and requirements accurately
- High emotional intelligence; personable, adaptable, and genuinely curious about people
- Proactive problem solver who thrives in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
- Able to speak fluently about brand positioning, category trends, and retail dynamics
- Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple accounts and priorities simultaneously

Most people hired at this level hold a bachelor's degree in business or a related field and have built their way up through quota-carrying account executive or senior account manager roles. An MBA strengthens candidacy at California's larger technology and healthcare companies, and experience closing complex deals in regulated California industries like fintech or life sciences is a notable differentiator.

San Francisco, Mountain View, and California have the most director of strategic accounts openings in California. San Francisco leads because of its concentration of enterprise SaaS and cloud company headquarters, while Los Angeles draws hiring from media technology, fintech, and healthcare clients, and San Diego's strong medtech and defense sectors keep demand steady for senior account leadership.

About 56% of director of strategic accounts openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting the role's suitability for distributed work. The responsibilities most commonly performed remotely are pipeline reviews, QBR preparation, and executive briefing calls, while in-person presence is still expected for contract negotiations and key client visits.
How can I get hired as a director of strategic accounts in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into a strategic or enterprise account manager role first, then building toward director-level responsibility over several years. Large California technology employers like Salesforce and Oracle run structured account management development programs that place associate account executives on named enterprise books of business, giving them measurable revenue exposure. Lateral moves from solutions consulting, customer success management, or inside sales at a California-based SaaS company are the most common doors, and earning a Salesforce Administrator certification or completing a California community college business program strengthens early applications considerably.
