Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Cost Accountant
Align your CPA credentials with U.S. requirements
A CPA Australia or ICAA designation strengthens your specialty occupation case, but U.S. consular officers assess your Australian bachelor's degree against the role's requirements. Get a credential evaluation confirming your three-year degree is equivalent to a U.S. four-year qualification before applying.
Target industries with established cost accounting functions
Manufacturing, healthcare, and defense contractors routinely hire cost accountants and file LCAs through DOL as part of standard workforce planning. Focusing on these sectors means you're more likely to reach hiring managers who already understand specialty occupation requirements.
Ask about LCA timelines before accepting an offer
Your employer must file and receive a certified Labor Condition Application from DOL before your consulate appointment. Certification typically takes seven business days, but delays happen. Confirm your employer has filed LCAs before and knows not to schedule your start date before certification clears.
Position cost variance analysis as your core specialty
Consular officers and employers both need evidence the role requires a specific accounting degree. Frame your experience around standard costing, overhead allocation, and variance analysis rather than generalist finance work, which is harder to tie to a specific degree field.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for the LCA and consulate paperwork
After you receive a written offer, Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service manages the entire process from LCA preparation through consulate appointment, reducing back-and-forth with your employer's HR team and minimizing errors that delay certification.
Confirm your employer's wage meets DOL prevailing wage rules
The LCA requires your employer to attest the offered wage meets the DOL prevailing wage for a cost accountant in that location. If the offer falls below the prevailing wage for your metro area, USCIS can flag the petition, so verify this before your employer submits the LCA.

Find Cost Accountant JobsCost Accountant E-3 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Cost Accountant jobs that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Search Migrate Mate to filter Cost Accountant roles by employers with active E-3 and LCA filing history. Standard job boards don't surface sponsorship eligibility, so you can spend weeks applying to roles where the employer has never sponsored a visa. Migrate Mate filters the results so you're only seeing companies already familiar with the E-3 process.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Cost Accountant role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3 visa?
Yes. Cost accounting requires a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a closely related field, which satisfies the specialty occupation standard. The role involves applying theoretical and practical accounting knowledge to standard costing, cost variance analysis, and financial reporting, all of which USCIS and consular officers recognize as requiring a specific degree field rather than general education.
How does the E-3 visa compare to the H-1B for Cost Accountant roles?
For Australian professionals, the E-3 is a significantly more practical path. The H-1B is subject to an annual lottery with roughly a 25 percent selection rate, meaning most applicants aren't chosen regardless of qualifications. The E-3 has an annual allocation of 10,500 visas that has never been exhausted, so if you meet the specialty occupation and degree requirements, approval depends on your application, not a random draw.
Can I transfer my E-3 visa to a new Cost Accountant employer in the United States?
Yes, but the process restarts with each employer. Your new employer must file a fresh LCA with DOL and have it certified before you begin work. There's no portability provision like the one available under AC21 for H-1B holders, so plan your transition timeline to allow at least two to three weeks for LCA certification before your intended start date.
