ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a strategic and execution-oriented Inventory & Cost Accounting Lead to build and scale manufacturing accounting and product costing capabilities across consumer hardware and robotics businesses. This role partners closely with Finance, Supply Chain, Manufacturing Operations, Technical Accounting, Strategic Finance, and Systems teams to establish scalable costing methodologies, inventory valuation processes, manufacturing close procedures, and reporting infrastructure supporting rapid growth and product launches.
The ideal candidate brings deep experience in consumer hardware manufacturing environments, including standard costing, inventory accounting, variance analysis, contract manufacturing, and ERP operationalization — particularly within Oracle Fusion. This person should thrive in ambiguity, balance strategic thinking with operational execution, and possess the executive presence and judgment to influence cross-functional stakeholders and senior leadership.
This role is based in San Francisco, CA. We use a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance to new employees.
IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL:
Manufacturing Costing & Inventory Accounting
- Lead product costing and inventory accounting across consumer hardware and robotics programs, including inventory valuation, manufacturing variances, reserves, and close processes.
- Partner with Supply Chain, Operations, and Strategic Finance to support BOM accuracy, labor and overhead assumptions, and gross margin analysis.
- Develop scalable accounting processes for NPI, prototyping, engineering builds, and mass production.
- Own inventory-related accounting policies and controls, including capitalization, overhead allocation, LCNRV/NRV assessments, rebates, freight, tariffs, and inventory controls.
ERP Systems & Process Design
- Serve as a finance lead for Oracle Fusion manufacturing costing and inventory implementations, enhancements, and process optimization.
- Partner with Systems, IT, and Operations to design scalable finance processes, controls, reporting structures, and operational workflows.
- Drive ERP configuration decisions related to standard costing, inventory subledger processes, manufacturing transactions, and cost books.
Financial Close, Reporting & Controls
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual cost accounting close activities and improve scalable reconciliations, reporting, and management review processes.
- Partner with Strategic Finance on margin reporting, inventory analytics, and budget versus actual analysis.
- Establish SOX-ready controls, support audits and technical accounting matters, and drive continuous improvement across close and reporting processes.
Cross-Functional Leadership
- Act as a strategic partner to Operations, Supply Chain, Procurement, and Program Management teams.
- Translate ambiguous business needs into scalable accounting and operational frameworks.
- Influence senior stakeholders through strong communication, executive presence, and data-driven recommendations.
- Help build and scale the long-term roadmap for hardware controllership, manufacturing accounting, and operational finance infrastructure.
YOU MIGHT THRIVE IN THIS ROLE IF YOU HAVE:
- Deep expertise in manufacturing accounting and cost accounting within consumer hardware or other high-volume manufacturing environments.
- Can comfortably operate between strategic leadership discussions and highly detailed operational accounting analyses.
- Strong executive presence and can communicate effectively with senior leadership and cross-functional partners.
- Enjoy building scalable processes and infrastructure in fast-moving, ambiguous environments.
- Highly detail-oriented and maintain a strong control mindset while balancing business partnership.
- Strong systems orientation and enjoy designing scalable ERP and reporting processes.
- Intellectually curious, proactive, and solutions-oriented.

Align your CPA credentials with U.S. requirements
A CPA Australia or ICAA designation strengthens your specialty occupation case, but U.S. consular officers assess your Australian bachelor's degree against the role's requirements. Get a credential evaluation confirming your three-year degree is equivalent to a U.S. four-year qualification before applying.
Target industries with established cost accounting functions
Manufacturing, healthcare, and defense contractors routinely hire cost accountants and file LCAs through DOL as part of standard workforce planning. Focusing on these sectors means you're more likely to reach hiring managers who already understand specialty occupation requirements.
Ask about LCA timelines before accepting an offer
Your employer must file and receive a certified Labor Condition Application from DOL before your consulate appointment. Certification typically takes seven business days, but delays happen. Confirm your employer has filed LCAs before and knows not to schedule your start date before certification clears.
Position cost variance analysis as your core specialty
Consular officers and employers both need evidence the role requires a specific accounting degree. Frame your experience around standard costing, overhead allocation, and variance analysis rather than generalist finance work, which is harder to tie to a specific degree field.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for the LCA and consulate paperwork
After you receive a written offer, Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service manages the entire process from LCA preparation through consulate appointment, reducing back-and-forth with your employer's HR team and minimizing errors that delay certification.
Confirm your employer's wage meets DOL prevailing wage rules
The LCA requires your employer to attest the offered wage meets the DOL prevailing wage for a cost accountant in that location. If the offer falls below the prevailing wage for your metro area, USCIS can flag the petition, so verify this before your employer submits the LCA.
E-3 Visa Cost Accountant: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Cost Accountant jobs that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Search Migrate Mate to filter Cost Accountant roles by employers with active E-3 and LCA filing history. Standard job boards don't surface sponsorship eligibility, so you can spend weeks applying to roles where the employer has never sponsored a visa. Migrate Mate filters the results so you're only seeing companies already familiar with the E-3 process.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Cost Accountant role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3 visa?
Yes. Cost accounting requires a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a closely related field, which satisfies the specialty occupation standard. The role involves applying theoretical and practical accounting knowledge to standard costing, cost variance analysis, and financial reporting, all of which USCIS and consular officers recognize as requiring a specific degree field rather than general education.
How does the E-3 visa compare to the H-1B for Cost Accountant roles?
For Australian professionals, the E-3 is a significantly more practical path. The H-1B visa is subject to an annual lottery with roughly a 25 percent selection rate, meaning most applicants aren't chosen regardless of qualifications. The E-3 has an annual allocation of 10,500 visas that has never been exhausted, so if you meet the specialty occupation and degree requirements, approval depends on your application, not a random draw.
Can I transfer my E-3 visa to a new Cost Accountant employer in the United States?
Yes, but the process restarts with each employer. Your new employer must file a fresh LCA with DOL and have it certified before you begin work. There's no portability provision like the one available under AC21 for H-1B holders, so plan your transition timeline to allow at least two to three weeks for LCA certification before your intended start date.
