Electrical Design Engineer Jobs in Houston: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a electrical design engineer job in Houston?
Focus your search on Houston's Energy Corridor and Greenspoint area, where oil and gas operators, engineering contractors, and power utility firms concentrate their electrical engineering teams. Candidates with experience in low-voltage systems, one-line diagrams, or NEC-compliant design for industrial facilities stand out locally. Familiarity with ETAP or AutoCAD Electrical and exposure to upstream or midstream infrastructure gives you a clear edge over candidates with only commercial building backgrounds.
Which companies hire electrical design engineers in Houston?
Companies currently hiring electrical design engineers in Houston include Fluor, AECOM, and DLR, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Houston's hiring base is dominated by EPC contractors, energy majors, and specialty engineering firms that serve the petrochemical and power generation industries.
Are there remote electrical design engineer jobs in Houston?
Yes, though remote work is limited for this role since most electrical design positions require site visits, lab access, or close collaboration with project teams on physical systems. About 0% of electrical design engineer openings tied to Houston are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, skewing toward roles focused on documentation, standards development, or design review rather than active field engineering.
How can I get a electrical design engineer job in Houston with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Houston is through an EPC contractor or engineering staffing firm that supports the energy sector, where junior designers are routinely brought on to assist with drafting, load calculations, and redline markups. Entry-level titles like electrical designer or CAD technician often serve as a direct bridge into full engineer roles. Houston community college programs with AutoCAD or ETAP coursework, combined with an internship at a local industrial firm, are recognized by area hiring managers as practical preparation.
