About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Design Engineer with a Professional Engineer (PE) license to support facility and infrastructure engineering projects at a major federal aerospace campus in the NASA Johnson Space Center / Clear Lake area of Houston .
This position provides engineering support for the development, design, installation, operation, and maintenance of facility systems , with projects ranging from routine facility modifications to complex, multidisciplinary infrastructure upgrades.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced electrical engineer who is comfortable taking ownership of projects and personally performing electrical design work in AutoCAD .
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and complete electrical engineering designs for existing facilities and infrastructure
- Perform your own design and drafting work using AutoCAD
- Prepare detailed engineering drawings, concepts, and bases of design (BOD)
- Design low-voltage and medium-voltage electrical distribution systems , including facility and site services
- Evaluate existing electrical systems and recommend upgrades, modifications, and equipment replacements
- Develop project plans, functional requirements, workflows, and detailed system analyses
- Create equipment layouts while ensuring compliance with applicable codes and engineering standards
- Support electrical system reliability, safety, compliance, and infrastructure improvements
- Conduct job walks and field inspections of operational electrical systems
- Coordinate with internal teams, customers, contractors, and other engineering disciplines
- Support troubleshooting and resolution of facility electrical system issues
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) from an ABET-accredited institution
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of Texas
- 7+ years of relevant electrical engineering experience
- Strong facilities electrical engineering/design experience
- Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD
- Must be able to independently complete full-cycle electrical designs
- Experience designing low- and medium-voltage electrical distribution systems
- Ability to read, develop, and review electrical drawings and technical documentation
- Knowledge of applicable electrical codes, industry standards, energy-efficiency requirements, and electrical safety practices
- Ability to conduct field walks and inspections as required
- Valid driver's license
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
The position requires comprehensive knowledge of existing facility electrical systems, full-cycle electrical design capability, and proficiency preparing detailed engineering and design drawings in AutoCAD.
Compensation & Schedule
Salary: $120,000–$145,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
Candidates with experience closely aligned with the position's facility design, AutoCAD, electrical distribution, and PE requirements will receive strongest consideration for the upper end of the compensation range.
9/80 Work Schedule: Enjoy an alternative work schedule that provides a regular weekday off every other week.
The position is currently operating under a hybrid arrangement; however, candidates must be comfortable working on-site in Houston, TX 77058 , as the work arrangement is subject to change.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a hands-on Electrical PE with significant facilities experience who can take a project from concept through completed design without relying on a separate designer or drafter for AutoCAD work.
Experience with existing facilities, infrastructure upgrades, electrical distribution, equipment layouts, field inspections, and multidisciplinary engineering projects is especially valuable.
