Electrical Engineer – Vehicle Systems
Parallel Systems is seeking an Electrical Engineer to own the design and development of vehicle electrical systems for our production autonomous battery-electric rail vehicles. This role focuses on vehicle electronics, including power distribution, traction & braking systems, safety-critical control logic, and compute/sensor networks. You'll serve as the responsible engineer of high-reliability electrical systems that are tightly integrated with mechanical, software, and autonomy components and subject to regulatory oversight.
The ideal candidate brings automotive or vehicle experience, is eager to work on regulated, safety-critical systems, and thrives in cross-functional environments.
This position requires up to 25% travel to our contract manufacturer and customer sites.
Responsibilities:
- Own the design & development of vehicle electrical systems, including wiring harnesses, commercial-off-the-shelf hardware, and test stands
- Drive the development and documentation of safety-critical subsystems, including DFMEAs, system hazard analyses, and verification & validation
- Perform hands-on hardware bring-up, bench testing, and debugging of electrical assemblies and prototype vehicles
- Lead end-to-end system integration with full lifecycle ownership, interface management, and cross-functional alignment to ensure the system works with all software and mechanical dependencies
- Maintain accurate engineering documentation including schematics, BOMs, test reports, and change logs
What Success Looks Like:
- 30 Days: You've built a strong understanding of the vehicle architecture, taken ownership of a subsystem, and are leading a concept review with the broader engineering organization
- 60 Days: You're hands-on in your subsystem, driving progress. Testing and validation is fully defined and first articles are running in the lab
- 90 Days: You've completed initial design validation and are working with the manufacturing engineering team to bring your subsystem into production
Basic Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or related discipline
- 3+ years experience with power distribution, control logic, or embedded communication protocols (e.g., CAN, Ethernet, SPI)
- Comfortable working from first principles to analyze, troubleshoot, and validate system performance
- Experience with CAD and design tools such as SolidWorks, Altium, RapidHarness, or similar
Preferred Qualifications:
- Evidence of exceptional ability (prior projects, portfolio of work, completed products, etc)
- Full lifecycle experience with electrical systems in automotive, rail, aerospace, or heavy industry
- Programming experience with Python, Rust, or C/C++
- Working knowledge of ISO 26262, ASIL, IEC 61508, or other functional safety frameworks
- Hands-on experience designing, prototyping, integrating, and testing complex harnessing

Electrical Systems Engineer Jobs in Los Angeles: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a electrical systems engineer job in Los Angeles?
The strongest entry point in Los Angeles is through the aerospace and defense sector, which dominates local hiring and concentrates along the South Bay corridor from El Segundo to Long Beach. Candidates with hands-on experience in power distribution, avionics, or embedded systems stand out. Targeting mid-size defense contractors and systems integrators alongside major primes, and building familiarity with military or FAA standards, gives a real edge in this market.
Which companies hire electrical systems engineers in Los Angeles?
Los Angeles electrical systems engineer roles are posted by Arcadis, Affiliated Engineers, and Hatch and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. The local market includes a mix of large aerospace primes, defense contractors, utilities, and the growing clean energy and EV technology companies that have expanded their engineering headcount across the greater Los Angeles basin.
Are there remote electrical systems engineer jobs in Los Angeles?
Yes, though remote work is limited for this role because most electrical systems engineering work requires physical access to hardware, test equipment, or manufacturing facilities. About 21% of electrical systems engineer openings tied to Los Angeles are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, with the remote-eligible portion skewing toward systems architecture, documentation, and simulation-heavy roles rather than hands-on integration work.
How can I get a electrical systems engineer job in Los Angeles with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Los Angeles is through an associate or junior engineer role at a mid-size defense subcontractor or a clean energy startup in the South Bay or Culver City area, where teams are smaller and early-career engineers take on broader responsibilities faster. Internships or co-ops with aerospace suppliers in El Segundo or Torrance frequently convert to full-time offers, and a senior design project with a systems focus helps candidates stand out against peers.
Which industries hire the most electrical systems engineers in Los Angeles?
The sectors hiring the most electrical systems engineers in Los Angeles are Consulting & Professional Services, Construction & Real Estate, and Technology & Software, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Los Angeles sits at the center of the U.S. commercial space and defense manufacturing supply chain, which keeps sustained demand for electrical systems expertise anchored in the region regardless of broader market cycles.
