Electrical Technician Jobs in Utah: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a electrical technician in Utah?
The Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing issues electrical licenses for technicians working on licensed electrical work in the state. Most roles require at minimum a journeyman electrician license, which involves completing an approved apprenticeship and passing the Utah journeyman exam. For industrial technician roles that fall outside licensed electrical work, employers typically look for an associate degree in electrical technology or a related trade credential from a Utah technical college such as Davis Technical College or Salt Lake Community College.
Which companies hire electrical technicians in Utah?
Companies currently hiring electrical technicians in Utah include Any Hour Services, Fervo Energy, and Prime Controls, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Utah's defense contractors, copper mining operations, and utility providers are among the most consistent long-term employers of electrical technicians in the state.
Which Utah cities have the most electrical technician jobs?
Salt Lake City, Eagle Mountain, and Milford account for the largest share of electrical technician openings in Utah. Salt Lake City drives much of the volume through its concentration of utilities, manufacturing plants, and defense contractors, while Ogden benefits from Hill Air Force Base and nearby industrial facilities, and Provo reflects the growing tech manufacturing and commercial construction activity along the Wasatch Front.
Are there remote electrical technician jobs in Utah?
Yes, but they're rare. Electrical technician work is fundamentally hands-on, requiring on-site presence for inspections, installations, and troubleshooting. About 14% of electrical technician openings tied to Utah are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those roles tend to be in technical support, documentation review, or controls engineering rather than field or plant work.
How can I get hired as a electrical technician in Utah with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a registered apprenticeship, and Utah has several through the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and independent programs at Davis Technical College and Mountainland Technical College. Candidates without field experience often start as electrical helpers or maintenance assistants at manufacturing plants or utility contractors before moving into technician roles. Earning a Utah electrical apprentice registration through the Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing gives entry-level applicants a formal credential that large employers and contractors recognize.
Where can I find and apply to electrical technician jobs in Utah?
You can find and apply to electrical technician jobs in Utah on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers hiring in the state right now. Search the listings, find roles that match your experience and location, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
