Our engineers solve challenging technology problems, and take big bets on new concepts, enabling AWS services to continue to revolutionize the industry.
A day in the life
What you will do: As a member of the Power Engineering team you will own the source code for firmware running the power electronics for our next generation datacenter hardware. You’ll provide leadership in the application of new technologies to enable large scale server deployments in a continuous effort to deliver a world-class customer experience. You will be a firmware subject matter expert in an engineering team responsible for both new product development as well as product sustaining and support. You will write, test, debug and ensure the control of firmware across a global fleet of equipment and delight our customers while doing it. This is a fast-paced, intellectually challenging position, and you’ll work with thought leaders in multiple technology areas. You’ll have high standards for yourself and everyone you work with, and you’ll be constantly looking for ways to improve your products performance, quality and cost. Embedded Software Engineer Jobs in Seattle: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a embedded software engineer job in Seattle?
Target Seattle's strongest hiring sectors first: aerospace and defense in Renton, consumer electronics and cloud hardware in South Lake Union, and automotive tech and robotics on the Eastside. Candidates who can demonstrate firmware development, RTOS experience, or hardware-software integration stand out in Seattle's market. Attending local IEEE or ACM chapter meetups and connecting directly with engineering hiring managers at mid-size Seattle hardware companies tends to move applications forward faster than broad job-board submissions.
Which companies hire embedded software engineers in Seattle?
Employers hiring embedded software engineers in Seattle right now include Amazon, Amazon Web Services, and Blue Origin, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Seattle's hiring mix ranges from large aerospace primes and global consumer-tech companies to well-funded robotics and autonomous systems startups, many of which maintain dedicated embedded engineering teams.
Are there remote embedded software engineer jobs in Seattle?
Yes, though with limits: embedded software engineering is more hands-on than purely desk-based disciplines, so fully remote roles are less common than in web or cloud software. About 9% of embedded software engineer openings tied to Seattle are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, with the remote share concentrated in firmware architecture, toolchain development, and software-only simulation work rather than lab-intensive hardware bring-up roles.
How can I get a embedded software engineer job in Seattle with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Seattle is landing a junior or associate embedded engineer role at a mid-size hardware startup in the Eastside or SoDo corridor, where teams are lean enough to onboard candidates with strong project portfolios rather than years of industry experience. Building a public GitHub portfolio of bare-metal or RTOS projects, contributing to open-source hardware initiatives, and completing University of Washington continuing-education courses in embedded systems all strengthen local applications. Contract-to-hire positions at Seattle defense subcontractors are another practical on-ramp.
Which industries hire the most embedded software engineers in Seattle?
Most embedded software engineer openings in Seattle sit in Technology & Software, Retail, and E-Commerce & Online Marketplaces, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Seattle's position as a hub for aerospace manufacturing, consumer hardware development, and autonomous systems research makes those sectors the primary drivers of local embedded engineering demand.
