Engineering Team Leader Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a engineering team leader in Texas?
Most engineering team leaders in Texas begin with a bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited program, then build several years of hands-on technical experience before moving into leadership. Obtaining a Professional Engineer license through the Texas Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors is a significant advantage and is often required for roles that involve signing off on engineering documents or leading licensed staff. Employers typically promote candidates who combine technical depth with demonstrated mentorship and project delivery skills.
How much do engineering team leaders make in Texas?
Engineering team leaders in Texas earn a median of about $171,370 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $120,460 for the lowest 10% to over $277,790 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire engineering team leaders in Texas?
Employers hiring engineering team leaders in Texas right now include Garver, Ardurra, and Target, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of energy companies, defense contractors, and large infrastructure firms means demand is sustained across multiple industries rather than tied to a single sector.
Which Texas cities have the most engineering team leader jobs?
College Station, Dallas, and Harlingen have the most engineering team leader openings in Texas. Houston leads because of its dense concentration of energy, petrochemical, and engineering and construction firms, while Dallas-Fort Worth draws from aerospace, defense, and technology manufacturing, and Austin's growth in semiconductor and advanced manufacturing is steadily expanding its engineering leadership hiring.
Are there remote engineering team leader jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely desk-based fields, since much engineering team leader work involves on-site coordination, safety oversight, and hands-on team management. About 14% of engineering team leader openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and the roles most likely to offer flexibility are in systems engineering, software-adjacent technical leadership, and project management functions that do not require a physical plant presence.
How can I get hired as a engineering team leader in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic path is to enter through a staff or project engineer role at a large Texas employer and pursue internal advancement. Companies like Fluor, Jacobs, and major Texas petrochemical operators run structured early-career rotational programs that expose junior engineers to team coordination and project delivery. Earning your Engineer-in-Training designation through the Texas Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors while still building experience signals readiness for leadership and strengthens applications considerably.
Where can I find and apply to engineering team leader jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to engineering team leader jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings across industries and experience levels. Search the listings for roles that match your specialty and background, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
