INTRODUCTION
Performs a variety of moderately complex accounting clerical tasks in support of accounting, budget, and/or business management functions. Assists accountants, analysts, or Accounting Manager in preparing financial statements and records, processing payments and deposits, examining accounts and records for compliance with accounting procedures and City Schools' policy, and/or managing financial and business affairs. Maintains balances, adjusts, and reconciles accounts and records. May assist in monitoring budgets and the procurement of equipment, supplies, and services.
Essential Functions
- Compiles, assembles, and prepares financial reports, statements, statistical and fiscal tabulations and charts.
- Records, verifies, and enters financial transactions in journals, ledgers, and automated systems.
- Reconciles and balances accounts in general accounting.
- Allocates costs to a variety of accounts, according to established procedures.
- Processes requests for money from accounts and confirms the availability of funds.
- Reconciles and balances accounts and notifies personnel of over-expenditures.
- Examines, verifies, and adjusts accounts, records, vouchers, claims, invoices, payrolls, checks and supporting documentation for accuracy and conformance with established procedures and regulations.
- Computes and prepares invoices and other documents.
- Contacts vendors, departmental personnel, grant recipients and others to obtain and provide information and resolve discrepancies.
- Processes expenditure requests from various accounts and confirms funds availability.
- Reviews bookkeeping and accounting procedures and recommends modifications.
- Provides guidance or instruction to other clerical personnel.
- Utilizes resources appropriately to complete work in the most efficient manner; proactively communicates the status of work; participates and contributes fully as a team member; and exercises sound judgment and decision-making skills to resolve sensitive matters.
- Maintains confidential and sensitive information.
- Performs and promotes all activities in compliance with equal employment and non-discrimination policies; follows federal laws, state laws, school board policies, administrative regulations, and professional standards.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma. Associates degree preferred. Degree must be from an accredited college or university.
- Five years bookkeeping, accounting clerical or related experience.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of bookkeeping.
- Strong analytical skills to perform financial evaluations.
- Ability to research and resolve problems where necessary.
- Proficient in the use of calculators, personal computers, Microsoft Word, Excel or similar financial software.
- Ability to recommend modifications in bookkeeping and accounting procedures.
- Ability to prepare reports and financial statements.
- Excellent organizational skills required.
- Ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel.
- Ability to interact with diverse constituencies and convey complicated information with tact and diplomacy.
- Proficient skill in the use of technical computer applications, including electronic databases, case management systems, and Microsoft Office, including Excel and PowerPoint.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment.
- Skill in research, presenting, and explaining policies and procedures, assembling data, preparing complex reports, and formulating and presenting recommendations.
- Ability to work collaboratively.
- Ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships with school system employees and managers at all levels, as well as government agencies and community stakeholders.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize changing assignments, and organize busy workload, meet deadlines, and work well under pressure, while exercising excellent attention to detail.
COMPENSATION
- Maximum Salary: 48.75
- Minimum Salary: 28.02
