Entry Level Fire Protection Engineer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an entry level fire protection engineer job?
Employers hiring at the entry level look for a degree in fire protection, mechanical, or civil engineering, plus any internship or co-op experience with fire suppression systems, sprinkler design, or code compliance. Familiarity with NFPA codes and experience with design software like AutoCAD or Revit gives candidates a clear edge. A portfolio of academic or internship projects helps demonstrate practical ability when your resume is short.
Which companies hire entry level fire protection engineers?
Companies hiring entry level fire protection engineers right now include GHD, Jensen Hughes, and Olsson, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. At this level, hiring covers engineering consulting firms, fire protection specialty contractors, and large construction companies that staff their own in-house fire and life safety teams.
Are there remote entry level fire protection engineer jobs?
Yes, though most entry level fire protection roles are on-site given the field-inspection and design-review nature of the work. About 6% of entry level fire protection engineer openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those positions typically focus on design, drafting, or hydraulic calculations rather than site visits.
Are these new grad fire protection engineer jobs?
Yes. The listings here include new grad, recent graduate, and junior fire protection engineer roles alongside other entry level positions. A posting is generally new-grad friendly when it welcomes zero to two years of experience, counts internships or co-op rotations toward that threshold, or explicitly accepts a strong academic portfolio in place of full-time work history.
Which industries hire the most entry level fire protection engineers?
Entry Level fire protection engineer roles concentrate in Consulting & Professional Services, Construction & Real Estate, and Technology & Software, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Those sectors drive hiring at the entry level because they involve large-scale construction projects, high-occupancy buildings, or regulated facilities where fire and life safety engineering is required throughout the design and build process.
