ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This person leads the AICC engineers who work inside Huron's business teams during US and Canada hours. They run and grow the engineering team, own delivery on their engagements, stay close to the business teams they serve, and stay technical enough to build on the hardest projects themselves.
- Lead the team. Independently lead the assigned engineers in the US and Canada window. Match people to engagements with the AICC Lead, assign work to fit availability, motivation, and growth, coach and evaluate the team, and own its delivery quality, its culture, and keeping good people.
- Run the work in sprints. Lead sprint planning, agree a clear Definition of Ready and Definition of Done with the business and product owners, run the review demo, and hand the finished work to production.
- Own engagement delivery. Be accountable for the solution end to end: the architecture and its quality, meeting the goals set, defining who does what, and resolving technical risks as they arise.
- Stay hands-on where it counts. On the hardest projects, build alongside the engineer, and uphold and improve the team's technical standard.
- Own the business relationship. Own the relationship with business stakeholders up to executive level on your engagements. Before a build starts, agree what success looks like and how it will be measured. Make sure each team sets one clear priority and names who owns the result afterward. Present the value case to executive leadership.
- Reuse what works. Turn good builds into reusable tools, standards, and methods the next project starts from.
- Grow the bench. Help recruit and select talent, and plan and run technical training across the team.
- Show the value in plain numbers. Measure before and after: hours saved, less rework, more capacity, faster answers.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 8 to 10+ years building or delivering technical work, including 2+ years leading engineers.
- Comfortable estimating, planning, and running several engagements of different scale at once.
- Clear writer and speaker who builds trust fast inside a team, and is credible presenting to executive leadership.
- Can train and grow Huron staff, including the engineers you lead, and contribute to recruiting and hiring.
- Aware of budget and capacity, with a practice-level eye for where cost and hours can come down on future work.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Current and credible with agentic engineering tools and IDEs (Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, or similar).
- Solid full-stack background: React and JavaScript / TypeScript on the front end, and Python (FastAPI, Django, Flask) on the back end.
- Has built and shipped AI solutions (LLMs and agents) into real systems, and knows how to test that work so the team can stand behind its quality.
- Cloud (Azure, AWS) and containers (Docker, Kubernetes), with sound CI/CD, testing, and secure development practices.
- Agile and Scrum delivery, including sprint planning and working in sprints.
- Depth across several technical areas, and a track record of mentoring others in them.
- Comfortable in fast-paced, changing environments with shifting priorities and unclear problems.
- Senior people trust you. You'll push back on a badly framed problem and defer on what you don't know.
- Can translate business workflows into working solutions.

Forward Deployed Engineer Jobs in Chicago: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a forward deployed engineer job in Chicago?
Target Chicago's dense concentrations of enterprise software, fintech, and supply chain technology companies, particularly those headquartered in the Loop and Fulton Market. Candidates with hands-on implementation experience, strong client-facing communication, and familiarity with the data infrastructure tools common in financial services and logistics gain a real edge here. Attending local tech meetups and engaging with Chicago's startup ecosystem also surfaces opportunities before they are widely posted.
Which companies hire forward deployed engineers in Chicago?
Companies currently hiring forward deployed engineers in Chicago include Deloitte, Databricks, and Google, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Chicago's hiring base skews toward established enterprise software vendors, fintech platforms, and industrial technology firms that need engineers to deploy and support complex solutions directly at client sites.
Are there remote forward deployed engineer jobs in Chicago?
Yes, though remote availability is limited by nature since forward deployed engineering is fundamentally a client-facing, on-site role. About 40% of forward deployed engineer openings tied to Chicago are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting some flexibility in post-deployment support and technical advisory work. Configuration, documentation, and remote troubleshooting duties are the tasks most commonly performed off-site.
How can I get a forward deployed engineer job in Chicago with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through a solutions engineer or technical implementation specialist role at one of Chicago's many mid-size enterprise software or fintech companies, which regularly hire early-career candidates with strong technical foundations. Building familiarity with CRM, ERP, or data pipeline tools used heavily in Chicago's financial and logistics sectors helps, as does any project work demonstrating client communication skills. Lateral moves from technical support or professional services roles at Chicago firms are also common on-ramps.
Which industries hire the most forward deployed engineers in Chicago?
The sectors hiring the most forward deployed engineers in Chicago are Consulting & Professional Services, Accounting & Auditing, and Investment & Asset Management, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Chicago's position as a hub for financial exchanges, enterprise logistics networks, and B2B software companies creates sustained demand for engineers who can deploy and maintain complex technical products directly within large institutional client environments.
