INTRODUCTION
Who We Are
Notion is the collaborative AI workspace where teams and agents think together. We're building one place where your knowledge, projects, meetings, and AI tools live side by side, so work is faster, clearer, and less fragmented. Millions of individuals, small teams, and large companies run their work on Notion. Notinos (our employees) are customer zero in bringing this future of work to life. We care about craft, building things that last, and the belief that great work is still fundamentally human. Our goal isn’t to ship the next feature. Each and every team of Notinos is working to set the standard for how humans work together in the AI era. From building a business’s system of record to making and managing AI agents to automating away the busy work, we care deeply about giving our customers more time for their life’s work.
ABOUT THE ROLE
As a Forward Deployed Engineer within Go-To-Market, you will lead complex customer engineering engagements from end to end, spanning large-scale migrations, integrating Notion with third party systems and tools, and production AI/agentic deployments. You’ll embed with enterprise customers to design and build solutions that integrate Notion deeply into their technical and operational environments. This includes writing and maintaining custom code, designing and deploying production-grade custom agents and AI workflows with MCP, Agent APIs, and Notion’s automation and execution infrastructure, building data pipelines, and resolving complex challenges around scale, permissions, and governance. Your work as a customer-facing engineer will help shape best practices for how we support complex customer needs and ensure Notion’s platform is ready for scale.
WHAT YOU'LL ACHIEVE
- Own the hands-on technical delivery of customer engagements, including deep technical discovery, requirements gathering, solution design, and end to end implementation.
- Act as a trusted technical advisor, helping customers make informed architectural decisions and identify opportunities to expand and deepen their use of Notion.
- Design, build, and operate custom agents, integrations, automations, and data pipelines that connect Notion with customers’ systems and workflows.
- Lead the design and execution of large-scale content and data migrations, including discovery, scoping, data modeling, transformation logic, validation, and post-migration optimization.
- Work closely with client stakeholders to gather business and technical requirements and translate them into well-architected solutions that maximize the value of the Notion platform within their broader technical ecosystem.
- Design and build customer integrations, automations, and custom tooling as a part of Notion implementations.
- Design and operate feedback loops with Product, CX, and Engineering, translating real-world implementation challenges into actionable insights, technical requirements, and tooling improvements that directly influence Notion’s Product Roadmap and our Customers.
- Build foundational discovery frameworks, technical standards, and internal tooling that define how Services delivers complex migrations and implementations at scale.
- Contribute to the evolution of the Services team by developing repeatable methodologies, scoping artifacts, internal tooling, and contributing best practices as the team and customer footprint grow.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 4+ years of experience in a customer-facing engineering role, forward deployed engineering, or similar role, preferably in a SaaS or enterprise software environment.

- Background in developing technical frameworks, discovery methodologies, or internal tooling from the ground up.
- Strong history of collaboration with product and engineering teams, including influencing roadmaps or architectural decisions.
- Experience supporting pre-sales or early engagement phases, including technical discovery, migration scoping, feasibility analysis, effort estimation, and building prototypes or custom scripts to validate approaches.
- Strong track record of successful enterprise customer implementations.
COMPENSATION
The compensation offered for this role will be based on multiple factors such as location, the role’s scope and complexity, and the candidate’s experience and expertise, and may vary from the range provided below. For roles based in San Francisco or New York City, the estimated range for total on target earnings (including base salary and on target incentive pay) for this role is $175,000 - $240,000 per year.
A NOTE ON AI
You don’t need deep AI expertise for every role, but we do expect every Notino to be intellectually curious, drawn to tinkering and discovery, and excited to use AI as a real collaborator in their work. For some roles, AI fluency is a core requirement — when that’s the case, we'll say so explicitly in the qualifications. People who thrive here don’t treat AI as a novelty. They use it to think better, and make their work easier for others to build on.

Tips for Your Forward Deployed Engineer Job Search
Quantify your deployment impact on your resume
Hiring managers for forward deployed engineers want proof you moved outcomes for customers, not just internal teams. List the number of enterprise accounts you supported, the scope of rollouts you owned, and any measurable reduction in time-to-value you drove.
Match your resume to each job's customer profile
A forward deployed engineer at a defense contractor and one at a SaaS startup are almost different roles. Tailor your resume to mirror the customer type, industry vertical, and technical environment each listing names explicitly.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists forward deployed engineer openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Build a portfolio of customer-facing case studies
Generic GitHub projects won't separate you here. Document two or three deployments where you diagnosed a customer's environment, built or adapted a solution, and handed off a working system. Even anonymized cases demonstrate the judgment this role requires.
Prepare for whiteboard sessions with real customer scenarios
Forward deployed engineer interviews often include live debugging or architecture exercises set in a customer's environment, not a clean sandbox. Practice explaining your diagnostic reasoning aloud while you work, because interviewers are evaluating how you communicate under ambiguity as much as whether you get the answer right.
Negotiate scope and travel terms before accepting an offer
Forward deployed roles vary widely in how much on-site customer time is expected. Before signing, clarify expected travel frequency, whether remote deployment is an option for some accounts, and how on-call responsibilities are structured, so you're not surprised after your first month.
Forward Deployed Engineer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most forward deployed engineers?
Deloitte, Databricks, and Google are hiring the most forward deployed engineers right now, with openings concentrated in California, New York, and Texas, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Demand is particularly strong at enterprise software companies and defense technology firms expanding their customer implementation teams.
How many forward deployed engineer jobs are remote?
About 34% of forward deployed engineer openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, though the nature of the role means fully remote positions are less common than in purely product-focused engineering tracks. Sub-specializations in cloud integration and API-layer deployments tend to offer the most remote flexibility, since they can be executed without requiring on-site access to customer hardware.
How do you become a forward deployed engineer?
Start by building a foundation in software engineering through a degree or equivalent self-study, then gain experience deploying or integrating software in real customer or production environments. Roles in solutions engineering, professional services, or technical account management are common entry points. From there, develop your ability to communicate technical decisions to non-technical stakeholders, which is the skill that most distinguishes strong forward deployed engineers from general software engineers.
Can you get a forward deployed engineer job with little or no experience?
Yes, some companies hire forward deployed engineers at an associate or junior level, typically targeting candidates who have completed internships in solutions engineering, technical support, or customer success engineering. The most effective way to stand out without deep professional experience is to document any project where you configured, deployed, or adapted software to meet a specific external or end-user requirement, even in an academic or open-source context.
What does the forward deployed engineer interview process look like?
Most forward deployed engineer interviews include a recruiter screen, a technical phone interview covering relevant programming and systems concepts, and a final round that combines a coding or architecture exercise with a customer simulation or case study. The case study stage is distinctive to this role: you're typically given a realistic customer scenario and asked to diagnose a problem, propose a solution, and present your reasoning to a panel that may include members of the go-to-market team, not just engineering.
Where can I find and apply to forward deployed engineer jobs?
You can find and apply to forward deployed engineer jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States. Find roles that match your experience and target industries, then apply directly to each listing. Because the role varies significantly by company size, industry, and customer profile, reviewing each listing carefully before applying will help you focus your efforts on the positions that are the strongest fit.
