Forward Deployed Software Engineer
About Convr: Convr is an AI underwriting, data, and intelligent document automation workbench built for commercial P&C insurers. We help carriers, MGAs, and brokers accelerate premium growth, improve risk insights, and drive operational efficiency. Founded in 2016, Convr transforms outdated, manual processes into structured, decision-ready workflows. Our modular platform manages underwriting from submission through quote with a purpose-built AI decisioning context engine – grounded in a commercial insurance ontology – ensuring complete data and smarter decisions, faster, while enabling a frictionless experience and superior performance. As we scale, we’re building a team shaping the future of commercial underwriting. Join us in modernizing commercial insurance with modern AI.
Role Overview: We are looking for a Forward Deployed Software Engineer (FDSE) who thrives at the intersection of high-level architecture and deep-stack technical execution. This isn't a "one-off" integration role. You are a hybrid of a software engineer, product strategist, and technical consultant.
You will embed with our most strategic customers to solve their most complex problems. However, your mission is dual-purpose: while you deliver immediate value to the customer, you are simultaneously acting as a product scout. You will identify patterns in customer needs and translate those into scalable, core features for our SaaS platform.
What You'll be Doing:
- Lead the design and implementation of new features in our core SaaS product. You aren't just building for one user; you are building for the platform.
- Work across the entire stack, from optimizing database queries and API endpoints to crafting intuitive UI/UX.
- Architect production-ready integrations and workflows. You will lead technical workshops with stakeholders to define "future state" solutions.
- Write high-quality, type-safe, and maintainable code in TypeScript, leveraging modern React and Next.js patterns for performance and scalability.
- Prevent "bespoke bloat." Identify universal customer needs and collaborate with product and engineering teams to bake those into the core technical direction.
- Contribute to CI/CD, testing, and performance monitoring to ensure the stability and reliability of your deployments.
- Mentor teammates and establish engineering best practices to level up the entire team’s output.
Who You Are:
- You think in terms of scalability. When you build a solution for one customer, you’re already thinking about how it could benefit the next ten.
- You take 100% ownership of the success of your deployments. You don't wait for a ticket; you find the bottleneck and fix it.
- You are as comfortable whiteboarding a system diagram for a CTO as you are submitting a pull request for a mission-critical API endpoint.
Experience Requirements:
- 10+ years of professional experience in full-stack or frontend development, specifically within SaaS products or startup environments.
- Strong coder with shown proficiency in TypeScript/JavaScript, Python, Java, C++, or similar.
- Strong experience in Commercial P&C Insurance and understanding of the underwriting lifecycle (submission through quote)
- Hands-on experience with Next.js App Router (server components, layouts, streaming, caching).
- Experience with tRPC or equivalent type-safe API frameworks.
- Experience implementing complex, data-heavy views with Tailwind and component libraries (shadcn/ui, Mantine, etc.). Background in UI/UX design or working closely with designers is highly preferred.
- Ability to design scalable systems and a solid understanding of frontend performance, state management, and accessibility.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work autonomously, acting as a consultant/partner to our customers while remaining accountable for deliverables.
- Ability and interest to travel up to 20% as needed to customer sites.
Benefits & Compensation
- Remote work
- Flexible Paid Time Off
- Company Paid Holidays
- Insurance Coverage (medical, dental, vision, short-term & long-term disability, life insurance, and accident coverage)
- 401K
- Paid Parental Leave
Why Join Convr? Joining our team means becoming a vital part of a high-growth, entrepreneurial mission to redefine the commercial insurance industry. We’ve traded corporate silos for radical transparency and a shared ownership mentality, ensuring that every voice is heard, and no one is just a number. We believe in the power of flexibility because we know life happens, and we empower our people with the autonomy to maintain a genuine work-life balance. As a team of experts striving for excellence, we will challenge you to develop your career and sharpen your craft alongside passionate colleagues who are committed to your success as they are to our collective impact.

Tips for Your Remote Forward Deployed Engineer Job Search
Prove async communication skills upfront
Remote forward deployed engineer hiring managers read for written clarity before they schedule a call. Include a concise technical write-up, a documented integration project, or a public post-mortem in your application. Clear async communication signals you can support enterprise customers without real-time hand-holding.
Highlight remote customer-onboarding work
Remote forward deployed engineer roles live or die on your ability to guide customers through complex implementations without being in the room. Call out specific examples where you onboarded a customer, debugged an integration, or ran a technical kickoff entirely over video and async channels.
Apply early to remote roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists remote forward deployed engineer openings from across the U.S. in one place, so you can find roles that match your stack and apply directly. Applying within the first few days of a posting consistently improves response rates at remote-first companies.
Show familiarity with distributed engineering tools
Remote employers expect you to already know the toolchain: API testing platforms, customer-facing documentation systems, incident tracking, and video-based technical demos. Name the specific tools you have used in past remote or customer-facing work rather than listing them as skills you know abstractly.
Remote Forward Deployed Engineer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a remote forward deployed engineer job?
Target remote-first software and infrastructure companies that run distributed customer-facing engineering teams. Remote employers screen hard for self-direction, strong async written communication, and the ability to onboard enterprise customers without in-person support. Candidates who can show hands-on work with APIs, SDKs, or integration projects and who demonstrate clear technical writing in their application materials have a real edge over generalists.
Which companies hire remote forward deployed engineers?
Employers currently hiring remote forward deployed engineers include Eliza, Provectus, and Cresta, per current remote listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Remote forward deployed engineer roles tend to cluster at remote-first software companies, distributed developer-tools firms, and enterprise SaaS teams that serve customers across multiple time zones.
Can you get a remote forward deployed engineer job with no experience?
Yes, but remote entry-level forward deployed engineer roles are harder to land because employers expect you to troubleshoot and move independently from day one with minimal oversight. Your best path is to build a public portfolio of integration or API projects, contribute to open-source tooling that mirrors customer-facing work, and target smaller remote-first companies that have structured onboarding for junior technical hires.
Do you need a degree for remote forward deployed engineer jobs?
Not always. Remote employers hiring forward deployed engineers weigh demonstrated technical ability, customer-facing project work, and concrete results over formal credentials. A strong GitHub portfolio, documented integration work, or prior experience supporting enterprise customers can carry as much weight as a degree, particularly at remote-first companies that evaluate candidates through technical screens rather than resume filters.
Which industries hire the most remote forward deployed engineers?
Remote forward deployed engineer roles concentrate in Technology & Software, Consulting & Professional Services, and Science & Research, based on current remote listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Those sectors hire forward deployed engineers remotely because their distributed product and customer teams need technical specialists who can operate across time zones without requiring on-site presence.
