Description
This role is for a CCIE-certified engineer who brings serious data center expertise and hands-on cloud networking experience to match. You have around 8 years in the field, deep expertise in data center networking, and proven experience bridging on-premises infrastructure and AWS cloud connectivity. You’ll work on a complex, large-scale environment where your ability to operate independently and deliver technically sound solutions makes a real difference.
Work Location
This position supports a program based in the Woodlawn, MD area. Candidates located outside a 50-mile radius of that area are welcome to apply. For those candidates, regular onsite presence will generally not be required; however, we do ask that new hires plan to spend approximately one week onsite following the completion of system access and credentialing to meet the team and become familiar with the environment. Ongoing, we’d ask for at least one day onsite per quarter — or a combined multi-day visit that covers multiple quarters — where feasible.
Please note that this is a full-time, direct-hire role. Due to segments of our customer base, we cannot sponsor employment visas. It is required that you have the ability to obtain and maintain a public trust.
Responsibilities
- Deliver technical work as a mid-to-senior team member, taking ownership of your area within larger projects while operating within BlueAlly’s quality standards
- Lead specific workstreams in data center and cloud networking engagements based on your area of expertise
- Produce clear, accurate technical documentation and present findings or recommendations to client stakeholders
- Recognize when project-impacting issues need to go up the chain and act on it
Position Requirements
- Around 8 years of hands-on experience in enterprise networking, with focused depth in data center and cloud network environments
- Active CCIE certification required; CCIE Data Center track preferred
- Deep expertise in data center networking including VXLAN, EVPN, and multi-site data center design and operations
- Hands-on experience with AWS cloud connectivity including Direct Connect, VPC networking, Transit Gateway, VPC peering, VPN gateways, and related constructs
- Familiar with Cisco Nexus platforms and NX-OS; experience with Cisco ACI or other SDN/overlay technologies a plus
- Comfortable working independently between direction-setting touchpoints — you know when to move and when to check in
- Able to produce polished technical documents — design deliverables, RFP content, deployment documentation — independently and to a professional standard
- Understands how project financials and forecasting work; independently manages your own forecast
Education
- Active CCIE certification required; Data Center track preferred
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent

Tips for Your Remote Network Developer Job Search
Tailor your resume to network layers
Recruiters scan for specific OSI layer experience, so call out whether your work lives at Layer 2, Layer 3, or higher. A resume that lists 'BGP, OSPF, and MPLS configuration in multi-site environments' beats one that just says 'network administration.'
Certify before you filter by seniority
A CCNA, CCNP, or equivalent vendor certification changes which postings you can realistically compete for. Hiring managers at mid-market firms often treat certification as a hard filter, so get it on your resume before targeting those roles.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists network developer openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Highlight automation and scripting skills
Network developer postings increasingly require Python, Ansible, or Terraform for infrastructure-as-code workflows. If you have hands-on automation experience, feature it near the top of your resume rather than burying it under hardware configuration history.
Prepare for lab-style technical screens
Many network developer interviews include a live lab where you configure a router, troubleshoot a dropped route, or build a VLAN in a sandboxed environment. Practice on GNS3 or Cisco Packet Tracer so your hands move confidently under pressure.
Negotiate total compensation, not just base
Network developer offers often include on-call stipends, tool allowances, and training budgets that vary widely between employers. Ask about each line item separately during the offer stage so you're comparing the full package, not just the headline salary.
Remote Network Developer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a remote network developer job?
Target companies that already run distributed teams, since they hire remotely by default and know how to onboard someone they never meet in person. Remote network developer employers screen hard for self-direction and clear written communication on top of the core skills, so show evidence you can own work without someone over your shoulder. Apply to the openings above that match your experience.
Which companies hire remote network developers?
Employers currently hiring remote network developers include Airbnb, Equinix, and BlueAlly, per current remote listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Remote-first firms and large companies running distributed teams post the most remote network developer roles.
Can you get a remote network developer job with no experience?
Yes, but it is harder than an on-site role, because remote work expects you to operate independently from the start. Entry-level remote network developer openings do exist, especially at remote-first companies, and a portfolio of real work helps more than a long resume. Applying broadly to the roles that fit improves your odds.
Do you need a degree for remote network developer jobs?
Not always. Many employers hire remote network developers on demonstrated skills and prior work rather than a specific degree, though some larger companies still prefer one. Showing relevant results matters more than a credential for most remote network developer roles.
Which industries hire the most remote network developers?
Most remote network developer openings sit in Technology & Software and Hospitality & Tourism, per current remote listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. These sectors run distributed teams and hire network developers remotely most consistently.
