ROLE
Job Title: Cloud Platform Engineer
Location: – Remot
Job Type: Contract (Only W2)
Position Summary:
The Senior Cloud Platform Engineer is a hands-on technical role accountable for the performance, availability, security, and scalability of multi-cloud environment across Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Amazon Web Services (AWS). This modernized position goes beyond pure operations — it demands deep platform expertise paired with strong development instincts, infrastructure automation skills, and a working command of AI-assisted engineering tools. You will work alongside Cloud Architects, Security, and Application teams to enable enterprise workloads, drive platform governance, and accelerate cloud adoption through high-quality automation and engineering discipline.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Multi-Cloud Platform Experience
- 5+ years designing, deploying, and operating workloads in GCP using best practices and industry standards
- 5+ years designing, deploying, and operating workloads in AWS; hands-on experience in both platforms required
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot GCP and AWS PaaS and IaaS services in production environments
- GCP: Deep hands-on experience with GCP services:
- GKE, VPC networking, Shared VPC, VPC Service Controls, Private Service Connect (PSC), IAM (including custom roles), Cloud Monitoring, BigQuery, GCS, DataProc, Dataflow, Cloud Functions, API enablement, project administration
- AWS: Deep hands-on experience with AWS services:
- EKS, EC2, EBS, Auto Scaling, VPC, VPC Endpoints, Route 53, Elastic Load Balancing, S3, EFS, Lambda, API Gateway, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, RDS, DynamoDB, ElastiCache, SQS, SNS, IAM, subnets, routing, security groups, VPC peering
Automation, IaC & Development
- 5+ years of hands-on infrastructure automation using Terraform (primary IaC), gcloud CLI, AWS CLI, and Python
- Develop and maintain Python-based scripting, workflow logic, and automation tooling — not just glue scripts
- Implement and maintain GitHub-based CI/CD automation (GitHub Actions / Workflows) aligned with enterprise patterns
- Experience automating infrastructure provisioning, service enablement, and operational runbooks end-to-end
- Ensure all automation complies with organizational guardrails: environment labels, CMEK, subnet/region constraints, and org policies
Cloud Networking
- Deep understanding of cloud networking fundamentals: VPC design, subnets, routing tables, firewalling, peering models, DNS
- Hands-on experience managing and troubleshooting VPC networks, firewall rules, connectivity issues, and PSC provisioning on both GCP and AWS
- Experience with hybrid connectivity patterns (VPN, Interconnect, Direct Connect)
Security & Identity
- 3+ years designing and implementing IAM models on GCP and AWS, including custom roles and least-privilege patterns
- High degree of knowledge in IT security, data protection, encryption (CMEK/CSEK), and compliance frameworks
- Experience with PII/HIPAA regulated environments a strong plus
AI-Assisted Engineering
- Active use of AI-based tools (e.g., MCP / Model Context Protocol, AI CLIs, LLM-assisted coding tools) to accelerate troubleshooting, automation development, and platform operations
- Ability to critically evaluate, validate, and improve AI-generated code and runbooks — not just accept output
- Demonstrated pattern of using AI to reduce toil and increase engineering throughput, not as a novelty
Version Control & DevOps
- Proficient Git and GitHub workflows: branching strategies, pull requests, code reviews, secrets management
- Experience with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines in enterprise environments
- Able to interpret, maintain, and improve cloud runbooks, operational playbooks, and process documentation
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- AWS Solutions Architect Associate or Professional certification
- GCP Associate Cloud Engineer or Professional Cloud Architect certification
- Experience with ServiceNow-based intake or operational ticket workflows
- Experience planning and executing on-premises to cloud migrations (GCP and/or AWS)
- Experience with enterprise-scale cloud governance, organizational policies, and compliance posture management
- Familiarity with enterprise cloud environments and standards
- Vast understanding of cloud-native architectures and when to apply PaaS vs IaaS vs containerized workloads
Education
Bachelor's degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field. Equivalent work experience demonstrating the required technical depth will be considered.
SUCCESS PROFILE
The ideal candidate for this role:
- Operates with an engineering-first mindset — automation is the default, manual work is the exception
- Thrives in a fast-paced, multi-cloud operational environment and owns problems end-to-end
- Brings genuine depth on both GCP and AWS, not surface-level familiarity
- Integrates AI tooling naturally into their workflow to go faster and build better
- Collaborates without friction across Cloud Engineering, Intake, Security, and Platform teams
- Continuously reduces operational overhead through improved automation, documentation, and service supportability
Warm Regards,
Prachi Gupta

Tips for Your Remote Cloud Platform Engineer Job Search
Tailor your resume to cloud stacks
List the specific cloud providers and tools you've used, AWS, Azure, GCP, Terraform, Helm, in your resume's skills section and in context within each role description. Recruiters and automated filters screen for exact tool names, not general phrases like 'cloud experience.'
Highlight infrastructure-as-code contributions
Hiring managers for platform roles want to see that you've written and maintained IaC, not just used pipelines someone else built. Call out specific Terraform modules, Helm charts, or Ansible playbooks you authored and what they automated or replaced.
Target openings by platform specialty
Cloud platform engineer is a broad title. Filter your search by the cloud provider or orchestration layer you know best, Kubernetes-focused roles differ significantly from FinOps or networking-heavy platform jobs. Matching your specialty to the opening improves your interview hit rate.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists cloud platform engineer openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Prepare for system design questions on platform scale
Platform engineer interviews almost always include a system design round focused on reliability, autoscaling, or multi-region failover. Practice designing systems that balance cost optimization with availability SLAs, since interviewers want to see how you think about trade-offs, not just architecture patterns.
Negotiate using scope, not just title
When discussing compensation, anchor on the breadth of infrastructure you'll own, number of clusters, cloud spend under management, or team size you support. Platform engineers who frame their impact in operational scope tend to negotiate stronger offers than those who focus on title alone.
Remote Cloud Platform Engineer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a remote cloud platform engineer job?
Target companies that already run distributed teams, since they hire remotely by default and know how to onboard someone they never meet in person. Remote cloud platform engineer employers screen hard for self-direction and clear written communication on top of the core skills, so show evidence you can own work without someone over your shoulder. Apply to the openings above that match your experience.
Which companies hire remote cloud platform engineers?
Remote cloud platform engineer roles are posted by IT Labs, Humana, and CVS Health and others right now, based on current remote listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Remote-first firms and large companies running distributed teams post the most remote cloud platform engineer roles.
Can you get a remote cloud platform engineer job with no experience?
Yes, but it is harder than an on-site role, because remote work expects you to operate independently from the start. Entry-level remote cloud platform engineer openings do exist, especially at remote-first companies, and a portfolio of real work helps more than a long resume. Applying broadly to the roles that fit improves your odds.
Do you need a degree for remote cloud platform engineer jobs?
Not always. Many employers hire remote cloud platform engineers on demonstrated skills and prior work rather than a specific degree, though some larger companies still prefer one. Showing relevant results matters more than a credential for most remote cloud platform engineer roles.
Which industries hire the most remote cloud platform engineers?
