FLAGSHIP SPECIALTY PARTNERS
Forward Deployed Software Engineer
Internal Operations
Location Charlotte, NC — On-site / Hybrid (Denver, CO considered)
Type Full-time, W-2 · Reports to CEO · Base $75,000–$95,000 (Depending on Experience)
Level Entry level (0–2 years) · Bootcamp grads welcome
About the role
Flagship Specialty Partners builds the software that runs a growing network of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery practices — referral CRM, financial dashboards, purchasing analytics, recruiting pipelines—all using state-of-the-art AI-assisted coding tools. We're hiring our first Forward Deployed Software Engineer to work directly with our CEO and partner with Department Heads across the business. You won't be lost in a giant organization — you'll sit in the inner circle learning how the company runs, identify real operational pain points, and ship custom software that solves them. Direct CEO and Board Level mentorship, modern tooling, and real ownership from week one.
A modern, AI-orchestrated role
This role is built for how software is actually made today. You'll be equipped with a company-funded AI coding agent subscription and a real token/credits budget — for example, Perplexity Computer or Claude Code. Your primary craft is orchestrating those agents to build, then rigorously verifying what they produce. Because of that, we weight data judgment, SQL/ETL fluency, and quality-control instincts far more heavily than raw hand-coding speed. Think of yourself as the verifier and process-owner over AI-generated code, not a boilerplate typist.
What you'll do
- Work directly with Department Heads to surface operational pain points, then orchestrate AI coding agents to build software that solves them
- Own data end-to-end: model schemas, write and optimize SQL, and build reliable ETL / analytics pipelines against real business data
- Rigorously quality-check and verify AI-generated code and data outputs before they ship — catching what the agent got wrong is the job
- Build features end-to-end: UI, forms, reports, dashboards, and the APIs behind them
- Apply Operational Excellence thinking — instrument and improve processes, not just write code
- Keep quality gates green and open tight, single-purpose pull requests for review
What we're looking for
- 0–2 years experience or a strong portfolio of shipped projects (bootcamp grads welcome)
- Strong data fundamentals: data modeling, SQL, ETL, and real-data handling
- A genuine habit of quality control and verification — you check your work and don't trust output you haven't validated (mandatory; weak QC judgment is disqualifying)
- Sound judgment directing AI coding agents, plus the discipline to review and verify what they generate
- Stack literacy for code review: JavaScript/TypeScript + React, and Git
- A genuine eagerness to learn and apply Operational Excellence / Quality Management methods — Lean, Six Sigma, TPS, TQM (we'll teach you, but you must want to; unwillingness is disqualifying)
- Comfort working directly with non-technical business leaders
- Live projects you can show and explain
What we provide
- Company-funded AI coding agent subscription and token/credits budget (e.g., Perplexity Computer, Claude Code)
- Direct CEO mentorship on the stack and on Operational Excellence
- Real ownership and business exposure from week one
Our stack
TypeScript · React · Vite · Express · Tailwind · Drizzle · SQLite/DuckDB · Docker · GitHub Actions · Fly.io. We orchestrate AI coding agents (Perplexity Computer, Claude Code) every day.
Highly desirable
Hands-on Operational Excellence / Quality Management experience (Lean, Six Sigma, TPS, TQM); experience directing AI coding agents; Fly.io/Docker/GitHub Actions; Drizzle/Vite/Tailwind; healthcare/CRM/analytics exposure.

Forward Deployed Engineer Jobs in North Carolina: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a forward deployed engineer in North Carolina?
Most forward deployed engineers in North Carolina enter the field with a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, electrical engineering, or a related discipline. The role carries no state-issued license requirement, so the clearest path is building hands-on deployment or systems integration experience, often starting in a support engineering or implementation engineer role at one of the Research Triangle's many defense contractors or enterprise software firms. A security clearance eligibility significantly strengthens candidacy for the large defense sector employers concentrated around Fayetteville and Raleigh.
Which companies hire forward deployed engineers in North Carolina?
North Carolina forward deployed engineer roles are posted by Databricks, Lenovo, and Deloitte and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. North Carolina's concentration of defense contractors and Research Triangle-based technology firms means openings appear consistently across both government-adjacent and commercial enterprise employers.
Which North Carolina cities have the most forward deployed engineer jobs?
Raleigh, Charlotte, and Morrisville lead North Carolina for forward deployed engineer openings. The Research Triangle anchors most of the volume given its dense cluster of technology companies, defense contractors, and large enterprise software operations, while Charlotte's financial technology and infrastructure sector drives demand there, and Fayetteville's proximity to Fort Liberty sustains a steady stream of defense-specific deployment roles.
Are there remote forward deployed engineer jobs in North Carolina?
Yes, but they're limited, because forward deployed engineering is fundamentally a hands-on, customer-site role that requires physical presence for installation, troubleshooting, and client training. About 40% of forward deployed engineer openings tied to North Carolina are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those positions tend to cover pre-deployment planning, documentation, or post-deployment support work rather than the core field deployment responsibilities.
How can I get hired as a forward deployed engineer in North Carolina with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is a technical support engineer or implementation specialist role at one of the Research Triangle's enterprise software or defense technology companies, which often serve as direct pipelines into forward deployed positions. Large North Carolina defense contractors and IBM's Durham operations run associate-level and rotational programs for recent graduates from schools like NC State, UNC Charlotte, and Duke. Building a portfolio of hands-on systems integration projects and pursuing a CompTIA Security+ certification, which many North Carolina defense employers treat as a baseline credential, meaningfully strengthens an entry-level application.
Where can I find and apply to forward deployed engineer jobs in North Carolina?
You can find and apply to forward deployed engineer jobs in North Carolina on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the available roles, identify the ones that fit your background and target location, and apply directly to the ones that match.
