Game Designer Jobs in Los Angeles: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a game designer job in Los Angeles?
Focus your search on Santa Monica, Culver City, and Burbank, where the largest concentration of AAA and mid-size studios operates. Console and mobile game companies here tend to prioritize a strong portfolio over credentials alone, so finished projects and shipped titles carry real weight. Networking at local events like IndieCade and connecting directly with studios on the Westside gives candidates a meaningful edge in this market.
Which companies hire game designers in Los Angeles?
Los Angeles game designer roles are posted by Riot Games, Riot Games, and TapBlaze and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. The local employer mix runs from major publisher-owned studios in Burbank to independent and mobile-focused developers concentrated along the Santa Monica and Culver City corridors.
Are there remote game designer jobs in Los Angeles?
Yes, though availability depends heavily on the role. Narrative design, systems design, and UX-focused positions tend to be more remote-compatible, while level design and roles requiring hands-on engine work are more often on-site. About 4% of game designer openings tied to Los Angeles are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, with mobile and indie studios typically offering the most scheduling flexibility.
How can I get a game designer job in Los Angeles with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Los Angeles is through junior or associate designer roles at mobile studios and smaller independent developers, many of which operate in Culver City and East Hollywood. Quality assurance and playtesting positions at larger Burbank studios are a common lateral move that gets you inside a production environment. A portfolio with even one completed project, a mod, or a game jam entry makes a meaningful difference when competing for entry-level openings here.
Which industries hire the most game designers in Los Angeles?
The sectors hiring the most game designers in Los Angeles are Technology & Software, Gaming & Esports, and Media & Entertainment, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Los Angeles's deep entertainment and media infrastructure, combined with its established network of publisher-backed and independent studios, drives consistent demand across those sectors.
