Location: Bay Area (San Francisco / Peninsula)
Reports to: CTO / Leadership Team
The Opportunity
We are building a first-of-its-kind consumer membership ecosystem from the ground up. As our Lead Product Designer, you will be one of the first foundational hires, responsible for shaping the visual and experiential DNA of a platform that will reach over 100 million users. There is no legacy code, no inherited design debt—just a "zero-to-one" build powered by an AI-first mindset.
The Product
You will lead the design for a membership app anchored around the MrBeast audience. This isn't a passive content app; it is a highly interactive, gamified ecosystem involving:
- Active Participation: Challenges, quests, and competitions that drive community engagement.
- Real-World Value: Integrating telco perks, partner rewards (Uber, Gemini), and digital benefits.
- Creator Marketplace: Building the tools that connect brands, creators, and fans in a global marketplace.
What You’ll Do
- Partner directly with the Director of Engineering to define the "ideal squad" workflow and product roadmap.
- Lead the design of our highest-priority consumer product end-to-end, with the opportunity to build and mentor a design team around you as the org scales.
- Design and test core retention loops, including onboarding flows, achievement systems, and economy design for digital and real-world experiences.
- Utilize AI tools and agents to iterate at high velocity.
- Own the end-to-end design process, from initial concept to shipping a scaled consumer product.
Who You Are
- Consumer Expert: You have a portfolio full of shipped products or features used by millions of people.
- AI-Native: You aren't just curious about AI; you are "burning through tokens" and integrating AI into your design workflow to move faster and smarter.
- Scrappy & Scaled: You have the "startup" experience to build from zero with a nimble team but the "big tech" experience to know what happens when a product hits massive scale.
- Action-Oriented: You thrive in ambiguity and prefer building and shipping over long, process-heavy design cycles. You prefer to “show” vs. “act.”
Benefits & Model
- Equity-First: We offer highly competitive equity packages for foundational hires who want to own a piece of the business.
- Hybrid Culture: 3 days per week in our Bay Area hub to collaborate closely with the team.

Lead Designer Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a lead designer in California?
Most lead designer roles in California require a bachelor's degree in design, fine arts, or a closely related field, followed by several years of hands-on experience building toward a leadership position. California does not require a state-issued license to work as a lead designer. Employers here consistently weigh portfolio quality and demonstrated ownership of shipped work heavily, so building a strong body of work across product, brand, or UX disciplines is the most direct path.
How much do lead designers make in California?
Lead designers in California earn a median of about $137,780 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $81,500 for the lowest 10% to over $249,210 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire lead designers in California?
Employers hiring lead designers in California right now include Rakuten Global, Rivian, and Intuit, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's density of technology headquarters, entertainment studios, and consumer brand companies means design leadership roles surface across a wider range of industries here than in most other states.
Which California cities have the most lead designer jobs?
San Francisco, Irvine, and Palo Alto have the most lead designer openings in California right now. The concentration reflects the presence of major technology headquarters and product-driven companies in the Bay Area, a large entertainment and advertising industry base in Los Angeles, and a growing cluster of biotech and defense-adjacent design work in San Diego.
Are there remote lead designer jobs in California?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 38% of lead designer openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how much of the work centers on digital products and screen-based deliverables. Strategic and systems-level design work tends to be the most remote-friendly, while roles requiring close collaboration on physical products or in-studio work are more likely to require an on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a lead designer in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is securing an associate or junior designer role and building toward lead responsibilities from within. Large California technology employers and agencies frequently hire for junior product design and UX positions that grow into leadership tracks. Contributing to open-source design systems, completing internships at California-based studios, or earning a recognized UX or product design credential strengthens a candidate's portfolio before applying to lead-level roles.
Where can I find and apply to lead designer jobs in California?
You can find and apply to lead designer jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings. Find roles that fit your experience and specialization and apply directly from the listing.
