At Trackonomy, design isn't just about making things look good—it's about elevating perception, shaping company value, and turning complex ideas into compelling stories. We're looking for a Lead Brand Designer who can both execute and lead—someone with the design chops to move fast and produce high-quality deliverables, and own the creative vision for Trackonomy's brand, evolving and elevating it over time.
This is a hands-on role that sits at the intersection of visual storytelling, brand systems, and cross-functional collaboration. You'll work closely with the CEO, marketing, and sales leadership to define, implement, and raise the standard of design across every external and internal touchpoint. From large-scale creative vision, to pitch decks, sales sheets, event graphics and more, your work will be foundational to how the world sees Trackonomy.
We're looking for someone who can own the function, not just respond to requests—someone who brings a strong point of view and can lead the brand's evolution while rolling up their sleeves to get the work done.
What You'll Do
- Own and evolve Trackonomy's brand across digital, print, physical, and presentation formats
- Execute high-impact design work across multiple formats—especially decks, one-pagers, and digital collateral
- Drive visual storytelling for key business priorities: product launches, sales enablement, executive decks, events, campaigns, and more
- Build scalable, flexible design systems and templates that enforce brand consistency across teams
- Partner directly with the CEO and leadership team to deliver polished, high-quality design on tight timelines and in fast feedback loops
- Proactively identify opportunities to improve and extend the brand across new channels and use cases
- Lead small brand initiatives (e.g. identity refinements, contractor management, style updates) and help scope larger future evolutions (e.g. full rebrand, motion/video assets)
- Act as the domain expert on brand design—a go-to resource for teams like Sales and Marketing to ensure brand alignment
- Over time, help source and manage external resources (e.g. motion designers, 3D artists, interns) as needed to scale output
What You Bring
- 6-10+ years of experience in brand, visual, or communication design, preferably in a startup or fast-paced, cross-functional environment
- A portfolio that demonstrates range, polish, and systems thinking—particularly across pitch decks, digital content, brand identity, and marketing collateral
- Strong proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, and PowerPoint,
- Experience supporting go-to-market teams and responding to high-velocity design needs with creativity and quality
- A creative point of view and comfort advising leadership on brand direction
- Ability to rally and manage other creatives, contractors, and freelancers to fill creative gaps during high-workload periods.
- Proven ability to both execute independently and collaborate cross-functionally Comfortable working under ambiguity, pressure, and evolving priorities—this is a startup, and we move fast

Lead Designer Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a lead designer in California?
Most lead designer roles in California require a bachelor's degree in design, fine arts, or a closely related field, followed by several years of hands-on experience building toward a leadership position. California does not require a state-issued license to work as a lead designer. Employers here consistently weigh portfolio quality and demonstrated ownership of shipped work heavily, so building a strong body of work across product, brand, or UX disciplines is the most direct path.
How much do lead designers make in California?
Lead designers in California earn a median of about $137,780 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $81,500 for the lowest 10% to over $249,210 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire lead designers in California?
Employers hiring lead designers in California right now include Rivian, Mattel, and 1Mind, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. California's density of technology headquarters, entertainment studios, and consumer brand companies means design leadership roles surface across a wider range of industries here than in most other states.
Which California cities have the most lead designer jobs?
San Francisco, El Segundo, and San Jose have the most lead designer openings in California right now. The concentration reflects the presence of major technology headquarters and product-driven companies in the Bay Area, a large entertainment and advertising industry base in Los Angeles, and a growing cluster of biotech and defense-adjacent design work in San Diego.
Are there remote lead designer jobs in California?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 71% of lead designer openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how much of the work centers on digital products and screen-based deliverables. Strategic and systems-level design work tends to be the most remote-friendly, while roles requiring close collaboration on physical products or in-studio work are more likely to require an on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a lead designer in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is securing an associate or junior designer role and building toward lead responsibilities from within. Large California technology employers and agencies frequently hire for junior product design and UX positions that grow into leadership tracks. Contributing to open-source design systems, completing internships at California-based studios, or earning a recognized UX or product design credential strengthens a candidate's portfolio before applying to lead-level roles.
Where can I find and apply to lead designer jobs in California?
You can find and apply to lead designer jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings. Find roles that fit your experience and specialization and apply directly from the listing.
