Entry Level Game Designer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an entry level game designer job?
Entry level game designer roles prioritize a portfolio that shows gameplay mechanics, level design, or narrative systems you have built, even from student projects or game jams. Employers at this stage look for familiarity with design tools like Unity or Unreal, an understanding of player experience principles, and evidence you can give and receive creative feedback. Internship experience is a strong differentiator.
Which companies hire entry level game designers?
Companies hiring entry level game designers right now include TapBlaze, Bitus Labs, and George Mason University, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hiring at this level comes from a mix of major game studios, independent developers, and interactive media companies that regularly bring in junior talent to support growing design teams.
Are there remote entry level game designer jobs?
Yes, though on-site and hybrid roles still make up a significant share of the market. About 32% of entry level game designer openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, so candidates open to in-office work in major game development hubs will find the widest range of opportunities at this stage.
Are these new grad game designer jobs?
Yes, the listings here include new grad, recent graduate, and junior roles alongside other entry level positions. A new grad friendly posting typically welcomes candidates with zero to two years of experience and treats internships, student projects, or a strong portfolio as equivalent to professional work history. Look for postings that list a degree as preferred rather than required.
Which industries hire the most entry level game designers?
Entry Level game designer roles concentrate in Education, Technology & Software, and Automotive, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. These sectors drive hiring at the junior level because they depend on continuous content pipelines, frequent game updates, and the development of new titles that require growing design teams from the ground up.
