Entry Level Linux Engineer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an entry level linux engineer job?
Focus on demonstrating hands-on skills: set up a home lab, contribute to open-source projects, and earn a recognized certification such as CompTIA Linux+ or RHCSA. Employers hiring at this level look for comfort with the command line, basic shell scripting, and familiarity with system administration tasks. A portfolio of real projects or documented internship work gives entry level candidates a clear edge over candidates with only coursework.
Which companies hire entry level linux engineers?
Companies hiring entry level linux engineers right now include Arista Networks, Tesla, and NTT DATA, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. At this level, hiring comes from a broad mix of employers, including managed service providers, defense contractors, cloud infrastructure teams, and technology companies that maintain large Linux-based environments and need junior engineers to support daily operations.
Are there remote entry level linux engineer jobs?
Yes, though on-site roles are still common at the entry level. About 30% of entry level linux engineer openings are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting demand from distributed infrastructure and cloud operations teams that can onboard junior engineers without requiring daily office presence. Searching by location preference on Migrate Mate helps narrow results to remote-eligible postings.
