YOUR ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
In this role, you will:
- Create high-quality, game-ready materials for characters and other cosmetics
- Build materials that leverage procedural textures and custom material logic to achieve distinctive visual effects
- Generate textures and bake data using tools such as Substance Designer, Substance Painter, and Houdini
- Develop reusable material frameworks and workflows that enable tech artists and artists of other disciplines to efficiently create unique assets
- Collaborate with character artists, tech artists, and engineers to integrate materials with geometry, effects, and Blueprints
- Optimize materials and textures to meet performance, memory, and scalability targets across multiple platforms
- Contribute to improving Unreal Engine material pipelines and best practices
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
What We're Looking For:
- A strong reel or portfolio demonstrating realtime game materials, ideally with character or cosmetic-focused examples
- Advanced understanding of PBR workflows, real-time rendering constraints, and material authoring best practices
- Proven experience creating complex materials using procedural textures and custom material behaviors
- Hands-on experience with Substance Designer and Substance Painter for texture generation and asset authoring
- Familiarity with the Unreal Engine 5 art and material pipeline
- Experience developing content for multiple platforms
- A solid understanding of modeling and texturing fundamentals within a real-time art pipeline, strong collaboration skills, and a desire to own features and initiatives from inception through ship
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bonus: Tools, scripting, or pipeline development experience for Unreal Engine, Substance Designer, and/or Substance Painter
- Bonus: Experience in setting up or working with modern character art pipelines, building custom tools, templates, or automation to improve material and texture workflows
- Bonus: Familiarity with Blueprints, Python, or similar scripting languages and experience in secondary areas such as modeling, lighting, or VFX

Senior Level Graphic Artist Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a senior level graphic artist job?
Employers at this level look for a portfolio that demonstrates ownership of multi-channel projects from concept through final delivery, not just execution. Strong candidates show they have set visual direction, maintained brand systems, and guided junior designers. Familiarity with motion, UX principles, or cross-functional collaboration with marketing and product teams gives an additional edge.
Which companies hire senior level graphic artists?
Companies hiring senior level graphic artists right now include Riot Games, Zagg, and Riot Games, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hiring at this level covers in-house creative teams at major brands, agencies handling complex client accounts, and media or technology companies building dedicated design functions.
Are there remote senior level graphic artist jobs?
Yes, remote and hybrid availability is strong at the senior level. About 9% of senior level graphic artist openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how established design workflows and portfolio-driven hiring make distributed work practical for experienced professionals at this stage.
What makes a graphic artist role senior level?
Senior level roles are defined by ownership and scope. Rather than executing assignments, senior graphic artists set visual direction, make independent design decisions, and are accountable for outcomes across a project or brand. They typically mentor junior and mid-level team members, contribute to creative briefs, and collaborate directly with stakeholders across marketing, product, and leadership.
Which industries hire the most senior level graphic artists?
Senior Level graphic artist roles concentrate in Technology & Software, Consumer Goods, and Gaming & Esports, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. These sectors drive hiring at this level because they maintain active creative output, require consistent brand governance across large audiences, and invest in experienced designers who can own visual identity without close supervision.
