Field Application Scientist Green Card Jobs
Field Application Scientist roles sit squarely in EB-2 and EB-3 territory: employers run PERM labor certification through DOL before filing an I-140 petition, sponsoring you for permanent residency rather than a temporary status. Scientific instrumentation, biotech, and diagnostics companies regularly carry these roles through the full green card sponsorship process.

Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding Green Card Sponsorship as a Field Application Scientist
Match your degree to the PERM job description
PERM requires the employer to define a minimum education requirement before advertising the role. If your degree field diverges from the posted specialty, document how your coursework and publications bridge the gap before the labor certification filing begins.
Target biotech and diagnostics companies with PERM history
Life sciences instrument makers and diagnostics firms sponsor Field Application Scientists more consistently than generalist tech employers. Search DOL PERM disclosure data for job titles containing 'application scientist' or 'field scientist' to identify companies that have completed the process before.
Use Migrate Mate to filter sponsoring employers
Filter your search on Migrate Mate by EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship to surface employers with verified green card filing history in scientific and technical roles, cutting out companies that only offer H-1B or decline to sponsor altogether.
Request EB-3 professional classification at the offer stage
Field Application Scientist roles typically require a bachelor's degree in a life science, engineering, or chemistry field, qualifying for EB-3 professional classification. Confirm with the hiring team during the offer conversation that their immigration counsel will file under EB-3 rather than a blanket EB-2 policy.
Prepare your credential evaluation before PERM advertising starts
DOL requires the employer to advertise a defined role and collect resumes before filing. If you hold a foreign degree, obtain a NACES-approved credential evaluation upfront so the employer's counsel can confirm you meet the stated requirements without delaying the recruitment phase.
Clarify whether the employer uses concurrent filing
If your priority date is current, USCIS allows concurrent I-140 and I-485 filing, removing the wait between petition approval and adjustment of status. Ask potential employers whether their immigration counsel routinely files concurrently, since this can shorten your path to lawful permanent residency by months.

Find Field Application Scientist JobsField Application Scientist Green Card Sponsorship: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Field Application Scientist role qualify for EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship?
Most Field Application Scientist positions qualify under EB-3 professional, which requires a U.S. bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in a relevant field such as biology, chemistry, biochemistry, or engineering. Roles that formally require a master's degree or involve specialized research components can qualify under EB-2. The employer's job description at the PERM stage controls which classification applies, so reviewing that description carefully before accepting an offer matters.
How does green card sponsorship differ from H-1B for this role?
H-1B is a temporary nonimmigrant status capped at 65,000 visas annually, subject to lottery selection. EB-3 green card sponsorship through PERM has no annual lottery, though per-country annual limits can create backlogs for nationals of India and China. The process is longer overall, typically two to four years from PERM filing to I-485 approval, but the outcome is permanent residency rather than a status that expires or depends on continued employment with the same employer.
What does the PERM process look like for a Field Application Scientist position?
Your employer files an Application for Permanent Employment Certification with DOL, demonstrating that no qualified U.S. worker is available for the role at the prevailing wage. DOL runs a supervised recruitment phase that includes job advertisements and internal postings. Once DOL certifies the PERM, the employer files an I-140 immigrant petition with USCIS. You file I-485 adjustment of status when your priority date is current according to the monthly Visa Bulletin.
How do I find employers who will sponsor a Field Application Scientist for a green card?
Use Migrate Mate to search for Field Application Scientist roles filtered by EB-2 or EB-3 sponsorship. Many employers sponsor H-1B but decline to run PERM, so filtering specifically for employment-based green card history narrows the list to companies that have completed the full labor certification and I-140 process for similar roles before.
Does the prevailing wage requirement affect how I negotiate salary in this role?
Yes. DOL requires the employer to pay at least the prevailing wage for the role's location and skill level throughout the green card process. The employer's counsel determines this figure using the OFLC Wage Search tool before filing the PERM application. You can look up the applicable wage level yourself using O*NET occupation codes and the OFLC Wage Search to verify that any offer meets or exceeds the threshold before signing.
