INTRODUCTION
The Instructional Designer will provide instructional design services and online technology support within the School of Nursing. The Instructional Designer will work in collaboration with faculty in the development and design of instructional content and course materials and advise on appropriate and effective methods of delivery. Additionally, they will help facilitate the integration of technology into the curriculum; train faculty and staff in instructional media, as well as provide technical and curricular support; and provide guidance and direction related to web-based instruction. The Instructional Designer is responsible for providing services that ensure strategic, operational or project goals established by faculty and senior leadership are met using project management skills. The Instructional Designer will work under limited supervision, exercise independent judgment for complex issues, and refer unresolved issues to a higher level.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Job duties include:

Serve as an instructional designer and project liaison for course redesign and maintenance.

Support faculty and students with courses using Canvas and other online technologies.

Accessibility - utilize software so that School of Nursing courses are compliant with federal laws and university guidelines. Train faculty on techniques they can use to maintain accessible courses.

Research and utilize new technologies for online courses.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with the Canvas Learning Management System and CidiLabs software
- Deep knowledge of the DOJ’s Title II Digital Accessibility Rule and how to remediate courses to meet digital accessibility standards.
- Familiarity with: Articulate software, video editing, H5P, Canva and other instructional software
- Knowledge of instructional design methods, universal design, and the creation of eLearning materials for various audiences
- Knowledge of educational principles
- Ability to learn new technologies quickly.
- High level organizational skills, attention to detail, computer proficiency in required programs
- Interpersonal and communication skills in both written and oral form
- Progressive experience in instructional technology
- Ability to identify options and develop solutions for unique or unprecedented situations
- Ability to coach, mentor, and train others
- Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience teaching in higher education.
- Deep knowledge of Quality Matters – a Quality Matters Coordinator or a Quality Matters Peer Reviewer
- Experience using AI tools ethically to assist in creating educationally relevant and meaningful content.
