Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding J-1 Visa Sponsorship as an Account Operations Manager
Frame your training plan around operations
Your DS-2019 training plan must describe measurable learning objectives, not just job duties. Map your Account Operations Manager tasks to specific business process skills the U.S. host will teach you that you couldn't access at home.
Verify your host employer understands DS-2019
Many operations teams haven't hosted a J-1 Trainee before. Confirm early that your prospective employer is willing to complete DOL-aligned training plan forms and coordinate with a designated sponsor organization before you accept an offer.
Check whether your role carries a home residency requirement
Account Operations Manager positions in government-funded or certain skills-transfer programs can trigger the two-year home-country residency requirement. Verify your field and funding source with your designated sponsor before the DS-2019 is issued.
Use Migrate Mate to find J-1 receptive employers
Search Migrate Mate to identify U.S. companies that have hosted international exchange visitors in operations and account management roles. Targeting employers with documented J-1 hosting history shortens your search significantly.
Match your credential level to the right J-1 category
If you're enrolled in a degree program, the J-1 Intern category applies. If you've graduated and have relevant work experience, the J-1 Trainee category is correct. Applying under the wrong category causes immediate rejection by the designated sponsor reviewing your DS-2019 application.
Prepare a portfolio of operations credentials before outreach
Designated sponsors and host employers both review your qualifications when approving a Trainee placement. Gather performance reviews, process improvement documentation, and any systems certifications relevant to account or operations workflows before contacting potential hosts.

Find Account Operations Manager JobsAccount Operations Manager J-1 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Which J-1 program category fits an Account Operations Manager role?
The J-1 Trainee category is the standard fit for Account Operations Manager positions. It's designed for foreign nationals who have a degree and at least one year of relevant work experience, or five years of work experience in lieu of a degree. Current students without a degree who are still enrolled may qualify under the J-1 Intern category instead, but only for placements directly tied to their field of study.
Who actually sponsors the J-1 visa for this role, the employer or a separate organization?
The employer is the host, not the sponsor. The J-1 visa sponsor is a U.S. Department of State-designated organization, such as Cultural Vistas, CIEE, or AIPT, that reviews your training plan, issues the DS-2019 form, and monitors your program compliance. Your host employer works with the designated sponsor to structure the placement, but the legal sponsorship responsibility sits with the designated organization, not the company hiring you.
What does a J-1 training plan need to include for an operations management position?
The training plan must outline specific, phase-by-phase learning objectives tied to account operations skills you'll develop during the program. Vague descriptions of daily tasks won't satisfy the designated sponsor's review. Include measurable milestones such as process audits, workflow system training, and cross-functional project participation. The plan should also specify supervision arrangements, hours per phase, and how each phase connects to skills unavailable in your home country.
How do I find U.S. employers willing to host a J-1 Trainee in account operations?
Search Migrate Mate to identify U.S. companies that have experience hosting international exchange visitors in operations and business roles. Employers who have navigated the DS-2019 process before are far more likely to move efficiently through the training plan approval and designated sponsor coordination that J-1 Trainee placements require. Cold outreach to employers unfamiliar with the process often stalls at the training plan stage.
Does the two-year home residency requirement apply to Account Operations Manager J-1 positions?
It depends on your country of nationality and whether your position is funded by your home government or a U.S. government entity, or involves a skill listed on your country's exchange visitor skills list. Account operations is not inherently a skills-list field, but you should confirm your specific situation with the designated sponsor before your DS-2019 is issued. If the requirement applies, you'll need to return home or obtain a waiver before changing to most other U.S. visa statuses.
