Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding J-1 Visa Sponsorship in Enterprise Customer Success
Align your training plan to CS outcomes
Your DS-2019 training plan must map directly to Enterprise Customer Success competencies: onboarding methodology, renewal forecasting, or QBR facilitation. Gaps between your stated objectives and actual job duties are the most common reason designated sponsors reject training plans.
Distinguish Intern from Trainee category early
If you're currently enrolled in a degree program, you qualify as a J-1 Intern. If you've graduated within 12 months, you apply as a Trainee. Misclassifying your category delays DS-2019 issuance and can require a full restart with your designated sponsor.
Target host employers with CS infrastructure
Use Migrate Mate to filter for U.S. companies that have previously hosted J-1 exchange visitors in customer-facing roles. Employers already familiar with host-organization obligations process training plan agreements faster and are less likely to withdraw after an offer.
Verify your host employer's E-Verify enrollment
Most designated sponsor organizations require host employers to participate in E-Verify before issuing a DS-2019. Confirm this before accepting any offer. Asking HR directly at the offer stage prevents last-minute compliance holds that delay your program start date.
Document measurable CS experience for your application
Designated sponsors assess whether your background justifies a Customer Success training placement. Quantify prior experience: accounts managed, churn rates reduced, or implementation cycles completed. Vague resumes citing only soft skills are frequently flagged during sponsor vetting.
Clarify the two-year home residency requirement upfront
Some J-1 participants in government-funded or skills-list programs must return home for two years before changing to H-1B or permanent resident status. Confirm with your designated sponsor whether your specific program and nationality trigger this requirement before signing your training agreement.

Find Enterprise Customer Success JobsEnterprise Customer Success J-1 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Which J-1 program category fits Enterprise Customer Success roles?
Most Enterprise Customer Success positions fall under the J-1 Trainee category for professionals who have graduated within the past 12 months, or the Intern category for those currently enrolled in a degree program. The role must involve structured training in a recognizable occupational field, and your training plan must reflect genuine skill development rather than routine employment.
Who actually sponsors my J-1 visa for a customer success role?
Your visa sponsor is a U.S. Department of State-designated organization such as Cultural Vistas, CIEE, or AIPT, not your employer. The host company provides the job and signs the training agreement, but the designated sponsor reviews your qualifications, issues the DS-2019 form, and monitors your program compliance throughout the exchange period.
How do I find U.S. companies willing to host J-1 exchange visitors in CS roles?
Use Migrate Mate to search for Enterprise Customer Success roles at companies that have previously engaged with J-1 programs. Many employers are open to hosting exchange visitors but don't advertise it explicitly. Filtering for companies with a history of structured training programs narrows your search to hosts already familiar with the DS-2019 process and host-organization obligations.
Does the two-year home residency requirement apply to customer success trainees?
It depends on your funding source and country of citizenship. If your J-1 program is funded by the U.S. government or your home government, or if your occupation appears on your country's skills list, the two-year requirement applies. You would need to return home before applying for H-1B or permanent residence. Confirm your specific situation with your designated sponsor before committing to a training agreement.
What should my J-1 training plan include for an enterprise CS position?
Your training plan should outline phase-by-phase skill development specific to enterprise customer success: onboarding processes, account health monitoring, renewal strategy, and executive stakeholder management. Generic descriptions of customer service duties are rejected by most designated sponsors. The plan must demonstrate that the exchange advances your professional development in a way not available in your home country.
