Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding J-1 Visa Sponsorship in Expeditor
Frame your training plan around measurable outcomes
Your designated sponsor requires a detailed Training/Internship Placement Plan (DS-7002) before issuing a DS-2019. Document specific expediting competencies you'll develop, such as purchase order tracking, vendor coordination, and ERP system workflows, tied to weekly milestones.
Verify your host employer supports DS-7002 documentation
Many logistics and manufacturing employers host J-1 Trainees but underestimate the paperwork burden. Confirm your prospective host has a point of contact who can co-sign the training plan and respond to designated sponsor compliance checks throughout your placement.
Search Migrate Mate to find J-1-aligned expeditor roles
Expeditor openings that explicitly welcome exchange visitors are harder to surface on general job boards. Use Migrate Mate to filter for U.S. employers who have hosted or sponsored exchange visitors in logistics and supply chain roles before.
Distinguish Intern from Trainee eligibility before applying
The Intern category requires current enrollment in a degree program abroad. If you've graduated, you must apply as a Trainee, which requires at least one year of relevant post-secondary education or five years of occupational experience in expediting or a related supply chain field.
Check whether your role triggers the home residency requirement
Some expeditor placements funded by your home government or involving certain nationalities carry a two-year home-country residency requirement after the J-1 ends. Confirm your specific situation with your designated sponsor before accepting an offer, as this affects future U.S. visa options.
Benchmark your offered wage against OFLC Wage Search data
Your designated sponsor and host employer must pay at least the prevailing wage for expeditor roles in the relevant metro area. Cross-check the offered wage against OFLC Wage Search before signing anything, since underpayment can jeopardize your DS-2019 issuance.

Find Expeditor JobsExpeditor J-1 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Which J-1 program category fits an expeditor role?
It depends on your career stage. If you're currently enrolled in a supply chain, logistics, or business degree program abroad, the Intern category applies. If you've already graduated, the Trainee category is the correct fit, provided you have at least one year of relevant post-secondary education or five years of expediting or supply chain experience. Your designated sponsor will confirm eligibility before issuing a DS-2019.
Who actually sponsors my J-1 visa as an expeditor?
The visa sponsor is a U.S. Department of State-designated organization, not your employer. Organizations like Cultural Vistas, AIPT, or similar bodies issue your DS-2019, oversee your training plan, and remain responsible for compliance throughout your placement. Your U.S. employer is the host organization. This distinction matters because the host can change or terminate the arrangement, while the designated sponsor holds the regulatory relationship with the State Department.
How do I find expeditor host employers who support J-1 placements?
Use Migrate Mate to search for U.S. employers in logistics, manufacturing, and supply chain who have a history of hosting exchange visitors. Most employers who open roles to J-1 participants have prior experience with the DS-7002 training plan process, which significantly reduces delays. Avoid applying to employers unfamiliar with the Trainee or Intern program categories, as the compliance learning curve often stalls placements.
Can an expeditor J-1 trainee switch host employers mid-program?
A host employer change is possible but requires your designated sponsor's approval before the switch takes effect. The new host must agree to a revised DS-7002 training plan, and the sponsor must issue updated paperwork. Switching without prior sponsor approval is a status violation, so notify your sponsor the moment a change becomes likely, not after you've already accepted a new offer.
Does the two-year home residency requirement affect expeditor trainees?
Not automatically. The two-year home-country physical presence requirement applies when your J-1 program is funded by your home government, when your country of last residence appears on the Exchange Visitor Skills List, or when your specific program designation triggers it. Expeditor trainees from countries with high-demand technical skills, including certain engineering and logistics fields, should verify their status with their designated sponsor before finalizing program details, since the requirement directly affects eligibility for future H-1B or green card pathways.
