Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding J-1 Visa Sponsorship as a Sourcing Coordinator
Align your credentials with specialty occupation standards
Sourcing Coordinator positions often require documented coursework or professional training in supply chain, procurement, or operations management. Compile transcripts and a training plan that maps your background to specific sourcing tasks before approaching host employers.
Distinguish Intern from Trainee eligibility before applying
If you're currently enrolled in a degree program, the J-1 Intern category applies. If you've graduated within the past 12 months or hold relevant professional experience, the Trainee category is the correct fit. Applying under the wrong category delays your DS-2019 issuance.
Target host employers with established J-1 training programs
Search for Sourcing Coordinator openings at companies in manufacturing, retail, and logistics that already maintain formal training plan templates. Employers familiar with the DS-7002 training plan form move through the host-employer vetting process significantly faster.
Use Migrate Mate to find J-1-aligned sourcing roles
Filter your search on Migrate Mate to surface Sourcing Coordinator positions at U.S. employers open to J-1 exchange visitors. Narrowing by industry, such as consumer goods or industrial supply, surfaces host employers whose procurement teams have relevant structured training capacity.
Confirm the offer covers your full training period duration
J-1 Trainee program duration caps at 18 months for business and procurement fields. Before signing an offer, verify the host employer's training plan spans a realistic timeline and that your designated sponsor has approved the program length on your DS-2019.
Check your home country for a two-year residency requirement
Government-funded exchange visitors and nationals of certain countries may carry a two-year home residency requirement under INA Section 212(e). Confirm your status with your designated sponsor before accepting an offer, since this requirement affects your ability to change visa status later.

Find Sourcing Coordinator JobsSourcing Coordinator J-1 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Which J-1 program category fits a Sourcing Coordinator role?
Most Sourcing Coordinator placements fall under either the J-1 Intern or Trainee category. The Intern category covers students currently enrolled in a degree program in supply chain, business, or a related field. The Trainee category applies to recent graduates or early-career professionals with relevant work experience. Your designated sponsor confirms which category fits your background before issuing the DS-2019.
Who actually sponsors my J-1 visa for a sourcing role?
Your J-1 visa sponsor is a U.S. Department of State-designated organization, not your hiring employer. Designated sponsors such as Cultural Vistas, CIEE, or AIPT issue your DS-2019, approve your training plan, and monitor program compliance. The company where you work as a Sourcing Coordinator is your host employer, a separate role with its own obligations under the exchange program.
How do I find Sourcing Coordinator positions open to J-1 exchange visitors?
Migrate Mate lets you filter Sourcing Coordinator openings by employers that are open to J-1 exchange visitors. Focusing on industries like retail, manufacturing, and logistics increases your chances because those sectors routinely structure procurement training programs compatible with the DS-7002 training plan requirement that designated sponsors need to approve your placement.
Does the host employer need to file anything with USCIS for my J-1?
No. The J-1 visa does not involve USCIS petition filing, which distinguishes it from employer-sponsored visas like H-1B. Your host employer works directly with your designated sponsor to complete the DS-7002 training plan and host-employer agreement. USCIS is not part of the approval chain. The State Department and your designated sponsor administer the program.
Can a Sourcing Coordinator trainee extend their J-1 beyond the initial approval period?
Extensions are possible within the maximum program length, which is 18 months for the business and procurement field under the Trainee category. Your designated sponsor must approve any extension and update your DS-2019 before the current program end date. Extensions are not automatic and require the host employer to demonstrate continued structured training objectives, not routine operational work.
