Banner Thunderbird Medical Center (BTMC) has served the Northwest Valley for more than 25 years. BTMC provides the highest level of maternity care in the West Valley; it is one of the leading providers of maternity care in the entire state. The Women & Infants Services (WIS) department at BTMC is a fast-paced environment averaging 5000 deliveries per year. BTMC is accredited by the Arizona Perinatal Trust as a Level III Center. This certifies that we are qualified to take care of the most high-risk patient population. Our doctors and nurses have the expertise and experience to care for some of the most complex pregnancies and deliveries, including women with pregnancies complicated by diabetes, high blood pressure, and premature labor. Our neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) has 41 beds, enabling us to care for babies born at any gestational age. We have 15-private Labor and Delivery rooms, 12 high-risk Antepartum rooms, 9 OB Triage bays, and a 30-bed postpartum unit.
We are looking for a dynamic nursing leader who exemplifies the values of clinical excellence, collaboration, and compassionate care. This role requires a leader who can balance operational excellence with compassionate leadership, ensuring both staff engagement and superior patient care.
This position will be leading our Banner Thunderbird Medical Center - Labor and Delivery team. The Nursing Associate Director provides leadership and operational oversight for nursing services, ensuring safe, high-quality, and patient-centered care. This role supports strategic initiatives, manages staffing and resource allocation, promotes compliance with regulatory standards, and fosters professional development within the nursing team. In this role, you will collaborate with interdisciplinary leaders to drive performance improvement, enhance patient outcomes, and maintain a positive work environment aligned with organizational values.
Prior Labor and Delivery experience is required for this position.
This is a full-time NIGHT position Monday through Friday and includes an on-call rotation with the other Associate Directors. Attendance at meetings during the day are required and may mean a shift in schedule times.

Position Summary
This position provides managerial and clinical support to patients and staff. Uses depth and breadth of clinical management knowledge to ensure the provision of high quality, safe, and cost-effective patient care. Demonstrates clinical expertise and oversees the leadership of clinical, financial, and personnel management of the assigned areas.
CORE FUNCTIONS

Manages and facilitates patient-centered nursing care for designated patient populations by serving as a real-time clinical expert for unit staff and physicians for escalated problem-solving on patients, processes, and family issues. Manages the operations of the unit to ensure smooth and efficient patient care management and resource utilization.

Leads change by developing, implementing, and evaluating quality and process improvement initiatives of the department in conjunction with the director. Seeks and utilizes input from staff and oversees change implementation. Ensures compliance with appropriate regulatory agencies.

Facilitates communication of system, regional, facility, and department initiatives.

Manages and develops the operational and capital budgets and use of associated resources.

Assures the development of staff leadership through the design of effective shared leadership models and supports career advancement opportunities. Functions as a role model and encourages staff to participate in their own development.

Responsible for selection, orientation, onboarding, and retention. Demonstrates leadership through coaching, performance evaluations, corrective actions, and development opportunities to create a culture of learning.

Manages large single unit or multiple clinical units to ensure excellent patient care. Actively develops leadership of entry-level nurse manager(s) while leading clinical improvement initiatives. Internal customers include patients, staff, and physicians. External customers include patient family.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
BSN or MSN required for all new hires. BSN required for internal transfers/promotions within 6 months of transfer/promotion.
Requires a current RN license in state of practice. Requires BLS certification.
Must possess a strong knowledge and understanding of clinical care management as normally demonstrated through two years of clinical management experience relevant to patient population. Demonstrates knowledge and skills of specialty area. Requires critical thinking, communication, influence, decision-making, analytical, and flexibility skills to make optimal decisions based on multiple variables and desired outcomes. Must have the ability to practice skills according to department and professional standards and quality requirements. In LTC setting: Requires familiarity with Alzheimer’s disease and developmental disabilities.
Employees working at Banner Behavioral Health Hospital, BTMC Behavioral or BUMG, BUMCT in a Behavioral Health clinical setting that serves children must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain the card for the duration of their employment. An Arizona Criminal History Affidavit must be signed upon hire. Employees working at BUMCS in a Behavioral Health clinical setting must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain the card for the duration of their employment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree in nursing preferred.
Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
