Job Title: Research Services Laboratory Sciences Entry Professional

Job Summary:
As an important member of the research team, the Research Services Laboratory Sciences Professional will support and report directly to an Assistant Professor (Daysha Ferrer Torres, PhD) in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology. There is no direct patient care involved in this position. There are no supervisory duties associated with this position. Position is located on the Anschutz Medical Campus.
This position requires bench research and project development. The project topic is: “human patient derived 2D and 3D organoid technology development for human esophageal diseases.” This position is accountable for meeting study-specific goals and timelines, while also performing and assisting with research tasks. This position communicates appropriately and effectively with investigators and other team members, has outstanding customer service skills, and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.
Key Responsibilities:
- Research focus: Bench research on organoid technology development, validation using immunofluorescence and live imaging.
- Core lab techniques: Molecular biology and biochemical assays including qPCR, western blot, ELISA, cell and tissue staining, and cell culture.
- Experimental ownership: Independently perform experiments, collect and analyze data, and maintain a complete laboratory notebook.
- Tissue processing and cell work: collect primary human tissue in partnership with Pathology core. Process tissue for biobank which include snap freeze for molecular profiling, cryopreservation for organoid biobank, and culture cell lines in 2D or 3D from the tissues collected.
- Communication and dissemination: Meet weekly with the PI, prepare project reports, and support manuscript preparation.
- Lab operations and compliance: Stock and maintain equipment and supplies, ensure safety and proper disposal, and assist with regulatory compliance and process improvements.

Onsite – this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, Colorado.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field.
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
- One (1) to three (3) years of experience in a basic science laboratory.
- Experience with mouse handling, drug delivery techniques, breeding, and dissection/necropsy.
- Experience with cell/tissue culture.
- Experience with standard molecular biology techniques including RNA isolation.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of basic laboratory techniques including safety procedures and techniques.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
- Outstanding customer service skills.
- Knowledge of basic human anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
- Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information.

Anticipated Pay Range:
The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as
$47,811 – $64,067.
The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
