Position: Threat Assessment Consultant
Location: Advocate Health Enterprise Wide - IL, WI, and NC
Full Time; 1st shift
Major Responsibilities:
- Serve as an Enterprise Behavioral Threat Assessment and Management (BTAM) subject matter expert consultant to all business and care operation stakeholders including but not limited to acute and non-acute leadership, Risk Management, Public Safety, Legal, Human Resources Teammate Relations, and Executive Protection applying evidence based, trauma informed methodologies to assess and manage threats or concerning behaviors with a nexus to violence.
- Conduct dynamic intake, screening, and preliminary threat inquiries to identify imminent risk, classify threat typology, and determine appropriate escalation, intervention, or case closure.
- Lead full-cycle threat assessment investigations, including evaluation of risk factors, protective factors, imminence, and pathway behaviors to render violence risk determinations using approved Threat Assessment and Management tools; reassess risk levels, lead development of balanced mitigation strategies, liaise with third-party partners to resolve higher-order, complex, or long-standing cases. Maintain current knowledge of and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, methods, and best practices.
- Facilitate and lead multidisciplinary Threat Assessment Team (TAT) meetings, coordinating collaboration among Public Safety, Human Resources, Risk Management, Legal, Behavioral Health, and operational leaders.
- Conduct trauma-informed interviews with Persons of Interest and impacted Teammates to assess risk, establish behavioral boundaries, reduce grievance, and support safety outcomes.
- Serve as a primary consultant for high-risk operational scenarios, including patient aggression, high-risk patient dismissals, high-risk employment actions, domestic/intimate partner violence cases, and executive or high-profile threats.
- Partner with Public Safety and analytic resources to utilize protective intelligence and open-source information in support of threat assessments while adhering to privacy, civil rights, and legal standards.
- Maintain accurate and timely case documentation within designated systems, consistent with BTAM Required Operational Procedures.
- Provide ongoing case oversight and follow-up, coordinating continued management strategies and determining appropriate case disposition (active, inactive, or closed).
- Support workplace violence prevention program effectiveness through trend analysis, provide BTAM training and exercises, and contribution to policy and process improvement initiatives.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:
- Valid Driver's License
Education Required:
- Bachelor's Degree in Behavioral Sciences or related field.
Experience Required:
- Typically requires 5 years of experience in assessing and managing situations that involve individuals who exhibit threatening, intimidating or disruptive behaviors; are emotionally distraught; and/or person(s) with complex personality traits or tendencies.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
- Knowledge of Behavioral Threat Assessment and Management (BTAM) principles and evidence-based methodologies used to assess and manage threat expressions and concerning behaviors with a nexus to violence.
- Knowledge of violence typologies, risk enhancers and mitigators, and factors related to imminence and pathways to violence.
- Skill in conducting behavioral assessments and risk evaluations using structured, repeatable, and defensible approaches.
- Skill in facilitating multidisciplinary collaboration, including leading Threat Assessment Team (TAT) discussions and aligning stakeholders toward balanced safety outcomes.
- Knowledge of trauma informed practices and their application in high risk, emotionally charged, and complex organizational environments.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and professional judgment skills to synthesize complex or incomplete information and inform sound recommendations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear documentation and communicate risk related information to leaders and stakeholders.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion while operating within defined consultative authority.
- Proficiency with office automation software, case documentation systems, and remote collaboration tools necessary to perform the role.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Valid US driver’s license and ability to meet and maintain AAH driving standards.
- Must be able to sit, stand, walk, and drive throughout the workday.
- Must lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
- Temperature in working environment (when outside) may vary significantly due to seasonal changes.
- May be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, explosive, and radiation hazards.
- Protective clothing must be worn as necessary.
- Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.

- Registered member of the Association of Threat Assessment and Management Professionals (ATAP) ATAP certified Threat Manager
Experience
- 5-10 years in assessing and managing situations that involve individuals who exhibit threatening, intimidating or disruptive behaviors; are emotionally distraught; and/or person(s) with complex personality traits or tendencies or 1 to 5 years’ experience in healthcare behavioral threat assessment and management.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
- Knowledge of workplace violence prevention, including considerations related to healthcare or similarly regulated settings.
- Knowledge of privacy, civil rights, and legal considerations relevant to threat assessment, information sharing, and consultative risk mitigation.
- Skill in conducting trauma-informed interviews, including motivational boundary-setting conversations that support de-escalation and risk reduction.
