Salary: $165,000 - $185,000 per year
A bit about us: A senior associate will join our Products Liability & Mass Torts practice to handle complex, high-stakes defense litigation for national and multinational clients. This is a substantive position — you'll manage significant case responsibility from intake through resolution, including motion practice, expert strategy, discovery, depositions, and trial preparation.
Why join us?
Day to Day:
- Lead and manage discovery across complex, multi-party matters
- Draft and argue dispositive motions, Daubert challenges, and pretrial motions
- Develop expert witness strategy in technical product defect and causation disputes
- Take and defend depositions of fact and expert witnesses
- Advise clients on case strategy and litigation risk
- Mentor junior associates and manage portions of case teams
- Work across industries including pharma, medical devices, automotive, and consumer products
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 7+ years of products liability defense litigation experience — this is non-negotiable; we are not considering candidates below this threshold
- J.D. from an accredited law school; active Illinois bar admission required (or ability to waive in immediately)
- Demonstrated experience with complex, multi-party products liability matters — not just personal injury defense
- Deposition experience as the primary examiner
- Substantive motion practice experience (you drafted it, not just edited it)
- Strong writing — this firm's reputation is built on it, and yours will be too
- Chicago-based; this is an in-person role with flexibility
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Nice-to-haves:
- Trial experience (first or second chair)
- Mass tort MDL experience
- Technical undergraduate background (engineering, science, or pre-med) — helpful for expert-heavy matters
- Experience in pharmaceutical, medical device, or automotive product sectors
COMPENSATION
Competitive with market for senior associates at nationally recognized litigation firms; commensurate with experience. Bonus-eligible.
