After passing, you apply for admission through the Appellate Division of the New York Supreme Court in the department where you reside or work. Attorneys licensed in other states may qualify to waive into New York under reciprocity rules without retaking the bar.
How much do associate attorneys make in New York?

New York's concentration of global law firms, financial institutions with large in-house legal teams, and state and city government agencies makes it one of the broadest hiring markets for associates across all practice areas.
Which New York cities have the most associate attorney jobs?
New York, Buffalo, and Melville have the most associate attorney openings in New York. Manhattan drives the majority of demand given its density of BigLaw firms and Fortune 500 corporate legal departments, while Brooklyn's growing tech and media sectors have added in-house roles, and White Plains serves as a hub for suburban corporate offices and regional firms in Westchester County.

Large New York firms including those in the AmLaw 100 run structured entry programs specifically for new law graduates. Judicial clerkships with New York state or federal courts are also a strong credential that opens doors at both firms and government agencies. Public Defender and District Attorney offices across New York's five boroughs regularly hire new attorneys without prior practice experience.
