Trade Compliance Manager Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a trade compliance manager in New York?
The most direct path is a bachelor's degree in international business, supply chain, or law followed by several years in customs brokerage, export controls, or regulatory compliance. New York does not require a state-issued license for trade compliance managers, but earning a Licensed Customs Broker credential through the CBP national exam or a Certified Export Specialist designation significantly strengthens your candidacy with New York's large multinational employers and financial institutions.
How much do trade compliance managers make in New York?
Trade compliance managers in New York earn a median of about $90,080 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $53,330 for the lowest 10% to over $142,370 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire trade compliance managers in New York?
Employers hiring trade compliance managers in New York right now include BDO, Flexport, and Scotiabank, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's concentration of global bank headquarters, defense contractors, and consumer goods multinationals means consistent openings across industries beyond traditional freight and logistics.
Which New York cities have the most trade compliance manager jobs?
New York and New York account for the most trade compliance manager openings in New York. New York City dominates because it is home to the largest cluster of multinational corporate headquarters, global banks, and import-heavy consumer brands in the country, while White Plains and Buffalo add volume through regional manufacturing operations, defense industry presence, and cross-border trade activity tied to the Canadian border.
Are there remote trade compliance manager jobs in New York?
Yes, and more than most compliance fields, because the analytical and policy-driven nature of trade compliance translates well to remote work. About 0% of trade compliance manager openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how much of the role centers on classification research, regulatory review, and cross-functional advising rather than on-site inspections. How can I get hired as a trade compliance manager in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is a customs brokerage coordinator or trade compliance analyst role at one of New York's freight forwarders, large retailers, or financial institutions with global operations. Employers like major New York-based banks and consumer goods companies often bring on compliance associates from paralegal, auditing, or supply chain analyst backgrounds. Pursuing the Licensed Customs Broker exam early or completing a NACM or International Compliance Professionals Association training program gives candidates a concrete credential that opens doors without years of direct experience.
