Compliance Associate Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a compliance associate in New York?
Most compliance associate roles in New York require at minimum a bachelor's degree in business, finance, law, or a closely related field. New York does not require a state-issued license for most compliance roles, but employers in financial services strongly prefer candidates with credentials such as the Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist designation or the Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional certification. Familiarity with New York Department of Financial Services regulations and guidance is a meaningful differentiator when applying to New York-based firms.
How much do compliance associates make in New York?
Compliance associates in New York earn a median of about $90,080 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $53,330 for the lowest 10% to over $142,370 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire compliance associates in New York?
Employers hiring compliance associates in New York right now include Morgan Stanley, Bank of China USA, and Herbert Smith Freehills, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's dense concentration of global banks, insurance carriers, and healthcare systems means compliance hiring remains consistent across the year rather than tied to seasonal cycles.
Which New York cities have the most compliance associate jobs?
The cities with the most compliance associate openings in New York are New York, New York City, and Buffalo. New York City dominates the distribution because it is the headquarters location for the country's largest financial institutions, major insurance companies, and healthcare networks, while Albany draws compliance demand from state government agencies and regulated utilities, and White Plains reflects the suburban corporate campuses of large financial and pharmaceutical employers in Westchester County.
Are there remote compliance associate jobs in New York?
Yes, and more than many professional roles, because compliance work is largely desk-based, document-driven, and conducted through enterprise software rather than on-site operations. About 25% of compliance associate openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how broadly firms have adopted flexible arrangements for this function. Roles focused on policy review, AML monitoring, and regulatory reporting tend to be the most remote-friendly, while positions requiring in-person audits or direct examiner interaction typically require at least partial office presence.
How can I get hired as a compliance associate in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for compliance analyst or compliance coordinator roles at large New York financial institutions, which regularly hire recent graduates into structured rotational or training programs. Banks such as JPMorgan Chase and Citigroup run formal compliance development programs for candidates without direct experience. Candidates coming from adjacent roles in paralegal work, internal audit, or financial operations have a clear lateral pathway. Earning the CAMS certification or completing a compliance certificate from a New York-area law school extension program strengthens an entry-level application considerably.
Where can I find and apply to compliance associate jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to compliance associate jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers actively hiring in the state. Find roles that match your experience and apply directly from the listing without any intermediary steps.
