Compliance Specialist Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a compliance specialist in New York?
Most compliance specialist positions in New York require at minimum a bachelor's degree in business, finance, law, or a closely related field. New York does not issue a state-specific license for general compliance work, but employers in financial services expect familiarity with New York Department of Financial Services requirements, and those in healthcare expect knowledge of New York State Department of Health regulations. Earning a recognized credential such as the Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional designation strengthens your candidacy significantly.
How much do compliance specialists make in New York?
Compliance specialists in New York earn a median of about $128,920 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $70,710 for the lowest 10% to over $216,090 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire compliance specialists in New York?
Employers hiring compliance specialists in New York right now include First Student, NY Creates, and EmblemHealth, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. New York's concentration of global financial institutions, major hospital systems, and insurance carriers means compliance demand stays consistent across industries throughout the year.
Which New York cities have the most compliance specialist jobs?
New York, Brooklyn, and Rochester have the most compliance specialist openings in New York. New York City accounts for the majority of listings given its density of global banks, insurance firms, and large hospital systems, while Albany draws demand from state government agencies and regulated utilities, and Buffalo's growing financial services and healthcare sectors create steady openings outside the metro.
Are there remote compliance specialist jobs in New York?
Yes, and more than most fields. Compliance specialist work is largely desk-based and document-driven, making it well suited to remote arrangements. About 59% of compliance specialist openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how broadly employers have adopted flexible models since the shift to remote work. Policy review, regulatory research, and audit preparation are the functions most often offered fully remote.
How can I get hired as a compliance specialist in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is to apply for a compliance analyst or compliance coordinator role, which large New York employers such as major financial institutions and health systems use as their on-ramp for early-career candidates. Lateral moves from adjacent positions in audit, paralegal work, or risk operations are common and well recognized by New York hiring managers. Earning the CCEP certification or completing a compliance certificate program from a New York institution gives candidates without direct experience a concrete edge in a competitive applicant pool.
Where can I find and apply to compliance specialist jobs in New York?
